People want evil to be "big". Evil is more often mundane and personal. Sometimes Evil just wants you to simply be "polite" and say the opposite of what's in your heart or do what you know is wrong because it is the easier path.

"Who's hurt by it? It is just a white lie. Sometimes you have to go along to get along. I don't want to be the odd man out."

That's the kind of bargaining Evil likes. It plays on your pride and insecurities.

You see this at work on adolescents all the time. We probably all experienced doing things we knew were wrong because we were too afraid to speak up, didn't want to be singled out, wanted the acclaim of others, or just went with the flow. The same pattern operates on a societal, even worldwide scale.

Evil wants you to participate in, normalize, and celebrate Evil. It especially wants you to resist and deny the action of the Holy Spirit. It wants you believe either that you're a good person, that you're bad beyond redemption, or that you are trapped and there is no hope.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
