My personal rec is to buy your first as a complete rifle and build your second. BCM Recce 16 is great choice if you subscribe to the "Buy once, cry once" philoisophy.
The problem is that a small percentage of the US population actually own those guns. It's mostly dude's hoarding guns, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it would be better if everyone had some guns.
All branches of the US military have a total of about 2 Million active duty and reserve service members. That's less than 1% of the population of the USA. If all of them fought on behalf of a corrupt government against regular citizens, you'd need to outnumber them. What makes the US military so powerful is its air superiority, but if you can counteract that advantage with guerilla warfare then you stand a chance of winning. Look at places like Afghanistan and how people fought against the US Military there for example.
Dudes are exactly the people you want hoarding guns if they're going to fight a revolutionary war for freedom. You don't want to send women and children into battle.
That being said, I agree with you that it would be better if everyone had some guns.
We need to boost those numbers. That's a paltry percentage!
