Back in the 50's, we had to get intra-muscular shots against Polio. If I remember correctly, there were three shots in total. Within an hour or two of each shot, your arm would start to ache. It felt like a dead weight, and it was painful to lift. I don't recall how long it took for the side effect to wear off, but it sure as hell wasn't a pleasant experience.
That shot paralyzed the Aunt of one of my closest friends. I knew her well, she was awesome. Doctors had the audacity to tell her she must have contracted the virus before the shot (sound familiar?). About 10 years ago, she died a horrific death when the wheelchair lift in her van malfunctioned and crushed her. Something that wouldn't have happened if she had not been paralyzed by that shot. She died alone.
