The constitution limits your rights to a jury trial and allows for a military tribunal. Thats it. All other limitations come from the USMJ and are punishments for behavior that brings discredit to the service. You can still vote, own firearms and pretty much everything else. “Giving up rights” is an illusion and any JAG will tell you the same. The Military does not own you or your body and you have a duty to disobey illegal orders.
We must’ve served in a different military because when they told us to deploy anytime anywhere we went. When they told us to take a litany of anthrax shots we took them. They do own you. You can’t just walk away without them ruining your life. So don’t act like a barracks lawyer just to try and make a point. A pretty flaccid point considering those who served know and the ones that are in now with social media have even more restrictions on their Liberty.

Most people who serve never read the Constitution or the UCMJ; they just accept the idea they gave up their rights because everyone around them does. It isnt true, and it allows them to do all sorts of crazy shit. For the terms of your employment you agree to work conditions that are more stringent than most (UCMJ) but you dont agree to be experimented on, and you don’t agree to stop being a citizen with God-given rights.

Yeah, the military is all about use and abuse. I spent 4 years away from family. If I reenlisted I’d have to continue serving on west coast. My family lived in Florida.
I also joined and didn’t ask for the GI Bill. Did 4 yrs and when I was near the end of my contract, they wouldn’t allow me to buy into it. They said I’d have to reenlist and pay into it. LOL.
I left, took out student loans… got my degree and paid back loans early.
Military has a purpose but those running it are inept.
Side note, after finishing my degree I wrote to my congressman to express a solution for men in my situation. College grad and vet who owes student loans. Basically to make them tax free.. to which they replied…. Thanks for the suggestion but No.
