In Trump's case, it was running against Crooked Hillary in 2016. Before those points, both men were enthusiastically hyped-up by MSM and were for the most part well-regarded for their accomplishments and various philanthropy/charity work.
Also relevant MSM hypocrisy: these pearl-clutching Leftist "reporters" promote degeneracy/homosexual child-grooming/gay porn in elementary schools and similar destructive policies, but freak out over any instance of Ted being Ted calling them out for it. (If he is as "irrelevant" as condescending MSM articles consistently claim, then why do they feel the need to over-react en masse to almost every public statement he makes?)
