Then realized I'd do great at SFAS, but went on deployment first. Came back injured and my dreams destroyed with bolts holding my body together.
My older brother was an Army grunt. Much of what I’m saying is just the little jabs my brother and I give each other. I adore my brother and couldn’t be more proud of him. He would also agree. His toughest training came after basic. But there’s a different mindset between the two. Army is giving you the basic training needed to be a soldier in your relevant field. There are different Basics for different MOS’s. The Marine Corps is taking a civilian, breaking their identity, and indoctrinating them into become a Marine over 3 months, regardless of their MOS. Then they are given at least 4 weeks of infantry training, regardless of their MOS. It’s a totally different culture because Marines don’t do anything except be grunts, or directly support grunt units. There is no Marine Corps of Engineers.
I think that the culture behind this transformation is what makes the Marines more resistant, although not immune, to the woke shit infesting the brass. No one is getting commissioned without a college degree anymore, so every officer has 4 years of work university faggotry before getting that butter bar.
I despise how they get officers, they don't pick the best and the strongest.
I think the Marines are almost a cult (not a bad thing) so they get less people joining just to get a CV bullet point.
Sad to say that last week my HS friend called because their child wanted to join the Army and I told her to send them to the Marines. The real story behind this is that the Army can't recruit people because those that are otherwise eligible don't want to join. They set up this basic training prep course to bring terrible candidates up to standard and then on to Basic. Really scraping the barrel.

I couldn't imagine how Marine Corps boots camp could be effective without the yelling. I had so many drill instructors about one inch from my face screaming sooooo many times over those three months.
My concern isn't that they took more of the brutality out of Basic. Most of that was probably gone already. What is much more troubling is that the Army now effectively offers remedial ACADEMIC training.
You could probably guess the training doesn't make recruits any smarter, it just trains them to pass the tests. So we'll now have Soldiers make it into the regular Army who should have been sent home for being quite literally too retarded for service. The intellectual quality of our troops was already depressing. Shiniqua and all her friends were already in the ranks. The barracks isn't exactly Hillsdale College. Now, it will be even worse.
If it was just extra time to focus on physical training and get in top shape, fine, whatever. The body can, in most cases, be trained to perfection.

Another that never stopped complaining about not picking up Cpl before his two year mark... in an MOS that regularly had a 1400-1500 cutting score. Lmao.. I picked up with a score above 2100. There still may be some salt left... but I'm surer than shit it's sparse.

They only ever use those terms like that in boot camp. Anyone that is non-commissioned is addressed by rank.
But commissioned and civilians are still addressed as “sir & ma’am.” I was a crew chief in the air wing, so I interacted with officers constantly since the pilots I flew with were all officers. It was almost always sir and mama, except on long flights with the younger pilots where we would bro down.

I went through ranger training back in 97. We had a few cross - service guys. Two seals, a battalion recon guy and a force recon guy
Battalion recon guy was fucking dumb. And when you seem dumb around soldiers, you’re extra dumb. He was tough, probably eats bullets, but every jarhead stereotype: ugly, dumb, tough.
The force recon guy was probably the toughest dude I’d ever seen in uniform, and I was a ranger, trained with SF, know some serious spec ops guys.
That guy was something. Hope he didn’t die in some overseas bullshit. Glad I didn’t that’s for sure

All of them are still pretty insulated because the training and living conditions are too grueling, and getting rid of people you don’t want for “legit” reasons is so easy. MARSOC, SF, SEALs, PJs, they have the benefit of being such small communities that they can be more selective and weed out whoever they want.

I actually don’t think this will be the case. We have the best military on the planet because of the insane level of tech we have. After 20 years of using that tech against goatfuckers with decades old AKs and no NVGs, we still lost. And then gave them night capabilities 😂🤷🏻♂️
Combat arms will always be needed to actually take ground and hold it.
Robot soldiers who can go door to door to zip tie dissidents would suffice, but we aren’t quite there yet. Boots on the ground are still much cheaper.

The real story behind this is that the Army can't recruit people because those that are otherwise eligible don't want to join. They set up this basic training prep course to bring terrible candidates up to standard and then on to Basic. Really scraping the barrel.

I couldn't imagine how Marine Corps boots camp could be effective without the yelling. I had so many drill instructors about one inch from my face screaming sooooo many times over those three months.

My concern isn't that they took more of the brutality out of Basic. Most of that was probably gone already. What is much more troubling is that the Army now effectively offers remedial ACADEMIC training.
You could probably guess the training doesn't make recruits any smarter, it just trains them to pass the tests. So we'll now have Soldiers make it into the regular Army who should have been sent home for being quite literally too retarded for service. The intellectual quality of our troops was already depressing. Shiniqua and all her friends were already in the ranks. The barracks isn't exactly Hillsdale College. Now, it will be even worse.
If it was just extra time to focus on physical training and get in top shape, fine, whatever. The body can, in most cases, be trained to perfection.

02-11. Started to pussify a bit in the latter half of my stint. 02-04 was kind of the end of the salty-era. Analogs were phased out by 04/05 and by like 07/08 the SgtMaj of the Marine Corps phased out field day or some shit. If I ever willingly denied/ignored an order.. it was continuing to make my subordinates field day once a week. I was more than happy to get out of that new bullshit. MOS' just seemed to be flooding with millennial shitheads who acted entitled to shit. We had one guy that actually bitched about having to take out the garbage on our day to field day the shop. Another that never stopped complaining about not picking up Cpl before his two year mark... in an MOS that regularly had a 1400-1500 cutting score. Lmao.. I picked up with a score above 2100. There still may be some salt left... but I'm surer than shit it's sparse.

The yelling was kind of stupid. But it served a purpose. You had to deal with confrontational people telling you what to do. And you had to learn to deal with it cause that's the job.
...The yelling is supposed to innudate & attempt to innoculate you to LOUD NOISES and kinda teach you how to deal with stress. Like soldiers that fight in combat, lots of gun fire, artillery, etc?
