It's been 20 years since I was a public school student, however even back then they devoted oceans of time teaching us useless shit and lies about the Vietnam Vietnam, the Iraq War, how the Food Pyramid is settled science and you need to eat five servings of carbs per day, global warming and how sodomites are magical and special.
We even had two Jewish historians visit every year to teach us about how Jews were turned into lampshades and bars of soap.
Going through school in the ‘70s and ‘80s, we didn’t hear about any of that shit. There were no opinions, nothing political either way, nothing about sex, you didn’t know ANYTHING personal about your teacher, and you didn’t want to. Kids who acted up or too weird were shamed and ostracized by the other kids.
I think I was in elementary when the food pyramid came out. It's basically seared in my memory. I can picture the little dots and triangles meant to convey the "density" of each group, the way the layers are slightly staggered, and the pictures of the food items. Carbs, 6-11 servings (wtf?!), vegetables 3-4, fruit 2-4, meat 1-3, dairy 2-3 or something close to that at least. Fats, oils, and sweets, "use sparingly". One of the greatest episodes of South Park is the one where they say the food pyramid should just be flipped upside down.
Same. I mean there were pluses and I went to a tiny school but still everyone always said I would miss it and it's the opposite. I used to have nightmares that i was still in school. Haha. Do I think I could have enjoyed it more and took more advantage if I went back? Sure. But fuck it. So much wrong with.
