That's what happens when you let MBAs run things. They'll cut costs by removing a washer that cost $0.005/vehicle. But that washer is so important that if conditions line up, you can't turn off your car or put it into park.

Sounds like it's a good time to invest in Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, any other foreign automakers who run plants in non union controlled states in the US.

The time to strike was when the UAW leadership endorsed Biden for president in 2020 after everything Trump had done for US auto workers. That was their chance to overthrow the corrupt union bosses, but they chose to do nothing. Now they can reap what they sow.

Never forget the first moment the freedom convoy bent their knee was on the bridge to America. within the week of Biden meeting Canada PM Justin Trudeau the bridge was cleared and after that meeting they began freezing bank accounts

–Tippytoe 11 hours ago +5 / -2

Why do you keep posting shit that has nothing to do with the topic

–SeawolfEmeralds 1 point moments ago +1 / -0

a strike has nothing to do with a strike. Especially the part about the bridge blocking products and shipments from reaching the automanufacturers of Michigan, that part has nothing to do with this part oh really. Either they didn't know that or their intention was to demoralize and dissuade others.

Considering Biden re-opened the doors for those vehicles being made in a third world country, they can enjoy their strike while those companies just build their factories somewhere else.

These corporations are spamming us with propaganda, and now you also want us to just accept their crumbs of pay and be grateful because they could ship our jobs to Mexico?

You sound like a fucking pussy. Men died fighting for unions so we could have livable wages.

CEOS are making 300x more than the lowest paid workers, compared to in the 50s when they made about 10x more

So what exactly do you think “make America great again” means to you? When was this great time?

Because they have little clout, the UAW voted for Democrats that fucked their employees time and time again and this is the worst possible time to have launched a strike in recent years. More jobs could easily flow to Mexico under a Democrat administration like they did massively under Obama.

When these companies were struggling to get their high end, very lucrative SUVs and trucks out the door they should have went on strike then, but that's not the case currently. Unless there is some backdoor deal between the UAW leadership and the automakers where they do this song and dance so they have an excuse for certain models not being overproduced the UAWs workers will lose. We need Trump more than ever.

If you don’t like the pay, go work somewhere else. No one assigned you that job and no one owes you a damned thing. Go start your own company if you think you can hack it, then you can pay yourself what you feel you are worth. On the other hand, if you can’t float on your own and you need to use what others built in order to support yourself, you’ll take what others are willing to pay you. Anything else is entitled commie gibs buttpluggery.

He is right. The union leadership is incompetent, the economy is massively slowing down, inventory is at the highest it's been in recent years and the leadership supported the Democrats who saw Mexico have more of a car industry than the US, without Trump there's no guarantee they won't go back to how things have been where they fuck over the workers of their country and their vehicles continue to have less Americans building them.

The fact is, corporations are not our friends. I figured this site would know that better than anybody.

Unions were at their highest back when America was considered great.

It’s no coincidence that with the decline of unions has there been a direct correlation with the decline of the middle class while the CEOs get richer and richer

It was the elimination of tariffs and these bullshit free trade agreements that allowed this country's industry to get hollowed out. Ross Perot was a patriot and he was right. I agreed with what UPS got as they included benefits in their figures and their workers are incredible and dealing with massive inflation as well while the company has only grown and grown while unionized the whole time.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– IbleedOrange 1 point 78 days ago +1 / -0

"I'm anti-union because I tried to join one and they wouldn't let me in". I feel like this is a big part of the anti-union sentiment here. That, and right wing indoctrination. While there may be some truth to it regarding public sector unions, private sector unions are great for the workers. Union skilled-trade jobs like plumbing, pay better, and have better benefits than their non-union counterparts. They "don't protect lazy workers" because ultimately, they are still employed by a contractor. Case in point, I just fired a lazy worker, sent him back to the hall to look for another job, and issued a not-to-rehire. He will never work for us again. They don't give members money straight to democrats. You can voluntarily donate to the PAC fund, I choose not to. I control my own political contributions. They don't take all my money to give to the union bosses. I pay around $40 per check. That covers schooling for 60 apprentices, so the next generation of skilled workers can thrive. If anyone is still reading, all I'm saying is the union has been good to me. I do commercial/industrial HVAC, something that 99% of non-union workers CAN'T do. I make a decent living, health insurance is paid, 2 pensions and an annuity will allow me to retire at 55, and now I'm in the office running a service department. (Still union). I would encourage anyone working in a trade to go to the union hall in their town and talk to them.

Let's not pretend that most of the people on strike at the UAW aren't meth heads that are only there because they know a guy and get fuggin blasted on their lunch break and that their jobs have become so simplified and idiot proof because of that. Even after that they STILL don't install hose clamps so your brand new utility van pops a coolant hose after a hundred miles and roasts the engine.

▲ 0 ▼
– Walleye-vision71 0 points 78 days ago +1 / -1

I guess you missed the part about drunks coming onto my job, threatening violence. We had to take big material deliveries in the middle of the night, so some asshole business agent wouldn’t see it, and send some other assholes to picket my job and harass me, because that’s exactly what would happen. Any organization that tells me I can’t work is my enemy.

Oh good, do what you utter dumbfucks always do and invent things I never said as a distraction from getting completely shut down by a simple statement of objective fact.

The middle class was better off for the last half century without union membership, generally speaking, yes. Union wages and and benefits fell behind the rest of the private sector decades ago. The past few years not so much, for obvious reasons that have fuckall to do with this.

Don't get salty with me because you union fucks don't like your bubble being popped by being confronted with your subsidization of the mob and corrupt democrat party for a century, to the detriment of the country. Middle class, my ass. It's always been about getting more for less, with the rest of the middle class paying for it.

Aside from not finding American cars very interesting, I've never bought a new one and never plan to. I've owned dozens of cars and what the UAW does or does not do matters not to me.

The ever besterer part was that you could always count on finding massive swathes of these bumper stickers on cars with Ontario license plates, parked in the lots of Michigan grocery stores.

Honest question. Why the hell should I care if I have a car and would never buy from these brands anyway? How will this impact me?

I buy the brands. I just don't buy them new. I'm perfectly happy with someone else's leftovers when it comes to cars. Let the first owner deal with all the warranty and recall bullshit.

Remember when (2009-2010) common stock holders in the old General Motors were essentially wiped out? Now Blackrock and Vanguard are the majority stockholders.

I was only like 10 years old when I knew I never wanted an off the lot new vehicle.

I'd rather get things that have been tested by millions and proven to work, then sort off the best remaining examples.

When new cars are more expensive, used market gets more expensive too

I have never and would never buy a used car, I buy new, as soon as it hits 100,000 I give it away to a relative and go buy another one. It's just not worth the uncertainty to me, I don't have the time to work on cars.

Dang. Big Baller here. 💵💰 But for real. We bought my wife’s car new. Paid cash. I’d like to buy another new car for her but I don’t want to take on any debt. We have 1 kid in college and another in HS. Maybe after the kids are on their own.

There's some kind of other agenda at work here imo. This is going to be used as an excuse for some bill or eo to bail out car companies and subsidize their failed ev investments or something, or perhaps as a preparatory step to further outsourcing? Idk, but it definitely reeks of politics.
