In my experience working union jobs in my younger days, many of the rank and file voted republican. Additionally, many who did vote Democrat did so solely because they believed the Republicans would destroy their union, despite being mostly ideologically conservative in other ways. I know many here hate unions but Trump can potentially gain a number of votes that isn't insignificant by positioning himself as a friend of union workers.

Their feeling on it was they made major concessions in 08 and since then any adjustment in compensation has fallen far below inflation. I agree profit sharing is a great compromise, but from what I hear they often employ creative accounting to reduce the amount of profit they are "sharing." Another issue is that CEOs and executives have seen massive increases in compensation with no comparative increase for the workers, which breeds resentment. Now we have a shit sandwich in which everyone will now have to take a bite. Not sure how it will go because both sides are asking for a lot. Hopefully they settle it soon.
