They can have their 40% raise and 32 hour work weeks if they want. Then they will all be out of a job when no one can afford a base model Fusion at $150k. The strike just speeds up the process.
To be fair anyone on the wrong side of the two tier system could really use 40% more. Too bad unions never lift a finger to close the gap between the kids and the old timers.
Yep and the WWII vets tried to stick it up our asses and we found a way to survive without bellyaching and bitching. Now before you call me a Boomer, I am Gen X and I never passed a federal budget, I never took unemployment and I never took a bailout loan. I am a successful small business owner who creates jobs and wealth for those willing to work for it.
It's funny, as I get older I get to watch the younger folks blame the older folks for destroying their lives and I see older folks blaming younger folks for spending too much time on video games and no work ethic. The truth is neither side is responsible for the other sides maladies. I was in the middle of my work years when the vast majority of WWII vets went on social security and Medicare. Budgets got blown out of proportion and the federal government claimed they were forced to go into debt to meet obligations. Is that true? Well, yes and no. No they weren't, they just chose poorly on spending directions and yes, they were forced to go into debt because their piss poor decisions along with a federal reserve note that had debt attached to it the minute it was printed saddled our great great grandkids with an immeasurable debt. A debt by the way that isn't getting any better because todays government still spends irresponsibly while doing nothing to address social security and Medicare and then adding Obamacare on that.
We need to ease the division here between generations, it isn't helpful and only pisses people off. Young people have been screwed over by older folks for generations, We Gen X'ers feel the same as you Millenials.
The kids should stop being entitled brats and just pull themselves up by their bootstraps. After all, the old timers EARNED their way by striking whenever they didn't get what they wanted.
Sorry, you don't deserve a pension and 80k starting salary for being able perform the automotive equivalent of assembling Ikea furniture. Go look at a video of a modern automotive assembly line. There's no skilled labor or trades there. The skilled work is done by robots. The humans are there to carry parts, put them in position and bolt/glue them together. The bolt driver does most of the work too since its CPU checks for cross threading and tightness.
The UAW and all other union parasites perform no valuable service for society and serve to drive up costs for the rest of us. The UAW is going to kill American auto manufacturing and take us into an era where all our cars are dumped from China just like it has been for electronics for decades.
It's very similar to when grocery store cashiers decided the work the performed was worth some ridiculously high salary. Short term they were successful in getting better pay, long term, they were nearly completely replaced with automated checkout systems. As pay gets too high, automation comes calling to solve the problem.
A good long term strategy is probably not forcing your company to overpay for unskilled labor. Instead, invest in yourself and get skills that are not easily replaced. Then you can negotiate your own salary.
Good analogy. People are worried automation will take all the jobs. No. Automation will take the jobs that offer incentive. Automation isn't free. I am 130k a year and all the stuff I put together and program is expensive.
With regards to cashiers thy are literally taking the increase in shoplifting rather than pay the salaries.
Sorry, cashiering, fast food, and putting parts on machines is not middle class education required work.
You fucking pussy. What do you think “make America great again” means then?
Because back in the day a man out of high school could support an entire family while the wife stayed home with the kids, all on a factory job like this
Fuckin loser disrespecting middle class blue collar workers
They could do this because the labor market wasn't flooded with women and illegal immigrants. Labor demand and real wages aren't difficult concepts. Women (historically) as a group basically ruined the labor market with their incessant need for a never ending supply of knick knacks and keeping up with the Jones' forcing them to work (because I deserve all the things I want and I shouldn't have to wait) knocking down demand for wages and then we imported a shit ton of people on top of it.
And before anyone says "yeah but those knick knacks create jobs", go look at the 'made in...' tag the next time she goes on one of her shopping sprees.
Yeah I'm with you man. Yes, unions have problems but the truth is there's no reason why basic work for big companies can't pay a living wage except the multi million dollar CEO salaries.
Yeah I’m sure it’s just a coinicidence unions were at an all time high then when the middle class was strongest, and are at an all time low now that the middle class is at its weakest
You're right. The American dream for many is long dead, and those who do what they can to keep it get utter contempt. They're fighting to hold onto what's been taken away from many, the ability to support oneself on a low skill but laborious job.
You must not be familiar with the union worker's job responsibilities these days. There's no way they would be actually doing their job for the full 8 hour shift.
I was listening to a guy talking about him going to work at Ford, checking in, then going to the lunch room and playing cards for hours and not working at all, and he said the union would protect him from getting fired, so it didn't matter what he did. So, he played cards with his buds all day.
Worked with a guy whose dad worked for ford doing rework. This guy told me his dad took a hammock to work and when he finally got a job would go lay down and say "ill get it tomorrow."
Imagine how affordable these cars would be if there was no UAW union... I'm not anti-union at all... but I'm anti FORCED union. Somebody should be allowed to work in a company without being in a union.
Imagine if government stayed the fuck out of cars and ppl like you and me could start a car company without spending millions in software and hard ware tech bullshit just to pump out a basic model of a car
This is the true answer. Unions should NEVER be mandatory. Most jobs should have them, but choosing whether or not you want to join and pay dues for the bargaining power and protections (and whether what you're getting for your dues is worth the cost) should be entirely up to the individual. There shouldn't be any jobs that require union membership to even be hired.
As somebody located in an area with a ton of upstream suppliers to the auto industry...it absolutely does not. The auto industry just squeezes their suppliers harder and harder to make up for what they give to the unions. Fuck the union workers, hope they freeze.
Being a supplier for GM sucked. Still don't know how we made any money. GM would make up downtime and charge us for lost production which just meant crediting them for parts. They used to say they could get a car out the door every 6 to 7 minutes and they would charge us the cost of a Cadillac every 6 to 7 minutes. Crazy business to be in.
I worked at a feeder plant and you know what they got from the last strike? 0 pay increase and unpaid time off because the UAW got greedy. People don't realize that these unionized feeder plants don't have striking power and it's written into their contract. I have yet to see the UAW demand better pay for smaller feeder plants but will collect dues regardless.
That "lucky to have a job" shit started after the 2008 recession, when middle America lost millions of jobs, bailed out Wall Street's bad bets with a trillion dollars of their own money, and were told that in fact they were the problem.
That must be why all the foreign automakers and Tesla with plants in right to work states pay half of what the Big 3 pay for their union labor... Dumbass.
The Democrats are trying to recapture their working man image and will pretend that the past decade of Obamaite cultural revolution -- insanely anti-white, anti-male, anti-Western, drag queen story hours and burning down federal buildings -- never happened.
Just trot out Oliver Anthony in a Carhartt singing about rich men and hope people forget
Unfortunately, yes. Obviously it's not 100% but union leaders are pretty much always heavy democrat voters and donators, and around election season they spend a lot of time and money trying to influence the workers to vote the same way.
“Sure, we have a slimy and commie-ridden record up to and including the very last election…. But we’re fine now.”
It’s literally the democrat line. We’re not normies here, so you can stow the gaslighting brochure shit, handshake. Don’t expect much here. It’s a big tent, but there’s no room for socialists.
Don't you know, even though all the corporate executives push wokeness and work to destroy America, we have to kneel down and suck their dicks because it's cOnSeRvAtIvE.
If you don’t like em, quit working for them. A strike isn’t quitting. From your admitted perspective, you’re just saying you won’t get back to work to “destroy America” until they pay you more and give you the time off you want.
We see you. The gaslight has failed. Go back to Reddit.
Uhhhhh....... you may just want to fact check yourself on that one. Union people are largely Blue No Matter Who! and the union itself will threaten jobs if Blue No Matter Who! doesnt get in.
They needed to lay people off. They will have to drop the price on their expensive vehicles. No one is paying $70k for a barebones F-150. No one is paying Mercedes money for a Grand Cherokee.
It has stop/start and cylinder deactivation and it’s a hybrid!! It’s for the environment!!! Buy this car for a 20k mark up to save the planet you bigot
I'm genuinely interested in why we haven't seen something like a 2 to 4 cylinder diesel hybrid? I live 40 minutes out of town and something like that would be a perfect commuter. All electric is retarded but hybrid actually makes sense for many applications.
Gasoline Engines ignite with a spark because gasoline is more volatile. Diesel compresses gas against a red hot element which drives the Dp. Takes diesel a lot more energy to start.
Also diesel requires more compression, I think hybrids are a low compression for the wear of starting stopping and power coming from crank instead of cylinders.
I know what is.. I just think your reasoning is too simplistic and ultimately wrong.
I mean.. it's amazing that the auto industry can lobby for and get anything it wants. So, if it doesn't end up getting something, you really have to ask, did they even actually want to fight it in the first place? If it takes a lower profit margin item off the market and "forces" you into high end luxury vehicles, then what did you "lose?"
So.. yea.. if you want to just say "it's CAFE" and accept that as an explanation, it makes you look both lazy and stupid. Good luck out there.
you played yourself Union dumb asses. they want to get rid of you anyway. they want to move production away from you. they will have Mexico build their new EV shit cars.
but by all means keep voting Democrat cause Democrats protect Unions
Sarcasm, there are far too many people learning to code already and a lot of work can be outsourced. What is amusing is before getting a degree in agricultural science I studied coding, the dumb shit academic advisor told me that IT work in the US was dead and would all be done remotely from India and China and that coding was the far better option… my friends that continued studying coding/programming ended up in IT because they couldn’t find work in programming.
There are still jobs for highly experienced software engineers. But getting that first entry-level coding job is really hard. Unless you tick the right DEI boxes…
H1B visa workers aren't working in car factories. They're working for big tech companies determining what you and I are allowed to say on the internet. While the individual union worker may not be the bad guy, the union representation and then union as a whole is a cancer on American business.
Get rid of the unions and it will become profitable for companies to make things here. They need workers to make things here. Get a government that isn't China's bitch and slap some big tariffs on anything not made here like most other countries that care about their citizens do. Problem solved.
Unions are the retarded idea that if you just marry your rapist he'll still rape you but at least he'll treat you a little better.
You can't solve anything with a Union, you can just kick the can down the road. If you think a Union is a good idea, then the entire industry you work in is monopolized and basically fucked and the Union will solve nothing for you.
Oh.. so, they only started the unions once the vehicle standards got passed into law? Or, did they exist for several decades before that?
I mean.. what point are you trying to make here? That Unions don't cause the problem? Yea, agreed. You'd still be retarded for joining one, though. It cannot possibly solve ANY problem, regardless of how it started.
There’s nothing wrong with private sector unions… Fuck you and your big government telling me and my friends we can’t unionize go fuck yourself commie.
Now if we’re talking about public sector unions. I completely agree with you.
There is no new car available for sale in the United States for less than $20,000.00. The average transaction price of a new car crossed $50,000.00 a while back.
If the UAW gets all that they are demanding, the average UAW worker will make, in hourly and benefits, more than many university educated engineers and scientists.
US automaker CEOs know if they don't push back on these demands, bankruptcy is a certainty.
Every vehicle that GM sells, has a cost of $11,000 in "retired employee" benefits. That number was in 2010, too... so I am sure it is at least 50% higher now.
You are confusing "demand" with profit margin. The rice burners still have unions in America that build their cars, they just haven't been giving away the farm for 100 years.
Plus I'd rather buy a 60k Lexus that will last 200k miles than a 50k blazer that will last 2 years max.
Most foreign manufacturers that have production facilities in the US are non-unionized. Toyota/Mazda, Honda, and VW plans are all non-union. They change just enough less than the American manufacturers for it to be relevant to the purchasing decision of consumers.
You think a GTR or a supra GR is a dick softening car? I love all cars... I don't get stuck in the old "herrr derrt Detroit muscle" bullshit as they ship more of our jobs to Mexico. Wake up dude.
No, I'm 40. I have a z51 c8 and wife has a new 24 rs3. I have test driven the GTR and was pretty impressed. I don't think you have and you may be stuck in some old unfounded "brand loyalty." As I said, you hold on to this loyalty as they ship your jobs to Mexico and Canada as the Acura NSX and others are made right here in the USA....
And now instead of doing donuts in parking lots, teenagers are living like Morlocks, eating chicken nuggets in their cave basements and squeezing Jergens into a sock
And since these asshole dealerships are getting away with marking up pricing on all of their inventory, even if the cost to manufacture drops, they can continue charging these rediculous prices.
From reading the article, the people who got laid off weren't the ones that are striking. They got laid off because they have nothing to do because the people who are striking aren't doing their jobs.
Like it’s something granted. You’re exchanging your labor for an agreed upon pay. No labor, no pay. If you don’t like the conditions, work elsewhere. Your job wasn’t assigned to you at birth. Bunch of commie buttpluggery.
Works both ways, no decent pay, no labor. It's a transaction, and the holder of the money doesn't and shouldn't hold disproportionate power in that transaction. If you want to simp for billionaires you can go right ahead, I'll tell George Soros you're down with the plan.
Your logic here makes no sense. Sure, you can absolutely choose not to work if you don't think you're being paid fairly, but if you don't show up for work I'm not going to continue employing you and paying you and covering all your healthcare and shit too. I can't force you to work, but you also can't force me to employ you. It's a two way street.
Like Biden hasn’t voiced support for the UAW strike lol. And I guess that means you’ll pass the message on to the soros shill at the next union meeting.
You can’t gaslight here.
If you don’t like your job, leave. Start your own business or work for someone else’s business. But never forget, it is someone else’s business. Not yours. You’re not owed anything outside of what was agreed upon as exchange for your labor. If you think you deserve more, make your case. If you don’t get what you feel you deserve, walk. If your contributions are as valuable as you believe, you should have no trouble finding a more suitable arrangement. If you can’t, then it’s time to reconsider your figures. It’s that easy. Paying a bunch of socialists to socialist on your behalf is, by definition, retarded socialist faggotry. The union is a big club, but you ain’t in it. You are their club and they will bash that club against whatever the lefty masters point towards. Bunch of useful idiots who missed the biggest lesson of the 20th century. You’re still falling for the same old shit today.
That is what they are doing. The only difference is that unions provide a legal framework to level consequences in their direction, the same as they would for us if we failed to meet expectations.
Wealthy people would have no compelling reason to take labor's demands seriously without the threat of consequence. Look how well California day laborers are paid if you don't believe me. The free market is great, but it does not work like you think it does, or maybe how you hope it does. I too like the idea that everyone will ultimately do the right thing, but, well.... (gestures vaguely)
I understand what you’re saying and you have some points with merit, but it’s not what they’re doing. They’re saying “we have demands and you’ll bend or else.” That’s mob-style tactics. They’re not threatening to quit. They’re making sure no one works, union or otherwise (“otherwise” just got their layoffs. I’m sure their families are thrilled). It’s the equivalent of being annoyed at the score, so you take the ball and run off. It’s bullshit. Again, if they’re not happy, they need to leave and find employment elsewhere. It’s all commie collectivist us vs them shit. You’re not “labor,” you’re an individual with a skill set and experience. If you don’t like their valuation of your time, go elsewhere. They’re not the only game in town. Those are the consequences. That’s the point of the free market and it works great if left to run as a free market. But the unions don’t operate with the free market; they directly obstruct and hamstring it. Never forget that the globalists like Biden are cheering on the strike. Why oh why do you think that could possibly be?
And pointing to California for anything regarding economics isn’t making the point you think it is.
If I'm reading this right, it wasn't the people striking laid off. It was downstream people that worked at locations depending on the items coming from places that are striking. Let's just call this the trickle down effect of union strikes.
IANAL, but it depends if it qualifies as a protected strike or not. Asking for a 40 hour workweek I don't think falls under an unfair labor practice. If the strike isn't defined as qualified, firing is an option.
Unions are good for no one except the union representation getting rich off the backs of workers and Democrat politicians who they always donate to. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Not true, I've had buddies that the union protected when their shitty companies tried to fire them. A union can be a powerful tool. Now, when they're taking that money and donating it, that's where the zero tolerance comes in
Because Toyota plants in the United States aren't unionized meaning they can produce quality vehicles at an affordable labor rate and not have to deal with union bullshit. Most foreign auto makers that have plants in the US are not unionized.
It's not China, and I wouldn't mind supporting our allies in Japan. I'm in the market for a new car, and while my family has had brand loyalty to Ford my whole life, maybe it's time I break away and get something different.
It's fine, but lately there have been a lot of "mighty whitey" and other racist comments, most likely from bad actors, which I am satirizing. While I personally don't give a shit about "muh optics," it's VERY tone-deaf to insult, say, Asians and then use their products like Douyin instead of making your own.
The execs don't take in all the profits, the company does. Buying cars from foreign manufacturers is literally pumping money out of the country for every car purchased.
and unless the company is paying employees, taxes (many of them end up paying very little and use tax havens, etc.), and using local product to build their stuff, then what difference is it?
Fine spend your money with G(overnment) Motors. I was always GM guy until the bailout and they closed all the conservative dealers down. Maybe you are too young to remember.
Who gives a shit? I don't care which execs get rich where, as long as they're employing Americans in their factories here in the US, which they are.
Hell, Hitler himself could rise from the grave and if he built factories here in the US and employed Americans to bring manufacturing back home I'd give the zombie man a high five. Literally all I care about is that the product is manufactured and assembled here, at home, providing stable jobs to American familes. That's it.
The execs don't take in all the profits, the company does. Your money goes overseas every time you buy one of these cars. Yes, they pay employees here to build them and that's great for some in the middle class. However, it would be in everyones best interest if the domestic manufacturers focused more on building reasonably priced cars here in America.
Their are no good guys in this dispute. but If I had to pick a loser it would be the big 3. I want them to suffer since they don't care about us or the USA at all. electric cars are stupid. we are 50 years away from them being practical. so the push for electric cars is insane and is hurting every aspect of the economy.
IRL I contracted at GM Shreveport for Y2K projects. In the afternoon, after all the workers left, the parking lot was littered with empty beer cans from lunch as they cleaned out their car as they left!
I saw their jobs, so boring just watching. So boring, you could train a democrat.... wait, what am I saying?
If they had asked for reasonable demands and wage increases. They wouldn’t be in this position. They were looking for 40 hours of pay for 36 hours worth of work and a 40% plus pay increase, amongst other things.
Meanwhile, while they’re not getting paid, the Union bosses are not worried at all with their six figure salary’s.
Sounds pretty awesome. Plenty of extra time to get hooked on fentanyl or some other bullshit, since they almost certainly would not use a free day every week for something productive or creative.
Nothing wrong with a 4 day work week, as long as you get pad for only 4 days of work. If they want a 4 day week and 40 hours pay, then they should come up with a plan for four 10 hour days that is workable.
A long time ago I worked in a Black & Decker plant. We did 12 hour days so you'd work like 3 days a week and did a full week I loved it. Well the job was not great but hours were nice.
Are used to work for a place that permitted you to do a 10 hour day, but the standard was eight. I did the 10 hour thing for about three weeks before they ended it.
Personally, I liked it. There was like one weekend day you would have to work per month as a result, but other than that, you got an extra week day off.
I found that ideal to schedule errands and appointments that you traditionally can’t do on the weekends.
FTA: "Keep "holding out", UAW - pretty soon there will be no auto industry left and you can claim victory over the evil executives who work there. Except, no one will have jobs, of course..."
What did the Sun guy say about evil leaders and ruling over ashes?
Curious about what Trump will say in his speech to the unions. Blue collar workers largely supported him, but the blue collar unions workers elected Fain to run the UAW and support the strikes and ridiculous demands.
Most union workers are ideologically right, but that doesn't matter when they believe Republicans get hard on gutting their livelihoods, that's why some of them vote D... Plenty still vote R also.
Except in the long run, the right is still correct. Because if they keep this shit up they'll all be out of jobs when the factory closes and moves to Mexico. Hate to break it to them, but you can only demand ridiculous bullshit for so long before the company tell you to fuck off.
So automanufacturing is the next industry.to die then. Next step in the processs of destroying everything. It was gonna have to go sooner or later since the economy is going to implode and few can buy new. I gues this is how they are goi g to remove it.
Lose your job, lose your weekly paycheck, lose your health insurance, lose everything because you listened to a thug pretending to work for you....no bailout this time!!!
fuck em they endorsed Brandon but the lay-offs are due to not being able to make stuff due to striking employees...not a retaliation, right? so is this just click bait?
Govt and Globalists want UAW gone. They served their purpose in getting China Joe installed. Now the globalists want auto manufacturing done anywhere except in USA. UAW may be finished, along with US manufacturing of things more complicated than hamburgers if the uniparty get their way.
Next up - Teamsters. Teamsters got their $multi billion pension fund made whole again after who knows what kick backs. But to collapse the supply chain they need them gone because they'll squawk about the disruptions. States are already legislating fossil fuel driven rigs out of existence.
This should make the Union and all the strikers happy. Now, they do not have a job to complain about......
😂🤣😂🤣
They delivered. They reduced the 40 hour work week down to 0 hours.
Top kek
I hope they all eat each other alive.
Yeah, fuck the middle class workers. We need more people on the government teat.
They can have their 40% raise and 32 hour work weeks if they want. Then they will all be out of a job when no one can afford a base model Fusion at $150k. The strike just speeds up the process.
More like 150k Escape. All these moronic car companies cancelling sedans.

That’s idiotic.

Yeah I'm with you man. Yes, unions have problems but the truth is there's no reason why basic work for big companies can't pay a living wage except the multi million dollar CEO salaries.
That had nothing to do with unions and everything to do with the labor supply being basically half what it is today since most women didn't work.
It was also before the Federal Reserve had to crank inflation through the roof to pay for 33 trillion dollars of deficit spending.
Yeah I’m sure it’s just a coinicidence unions were at an all time high then when the middle class was strongest, and are at an all time low now that the middle class is at its weakest

There shouldn't be any jobs that require union membership to even be hired.
kek
Now the Gov't will push harder for universal income.
agreed
Agreed. Unions are the epitome of crying spoiled brats.
Wimp.
Agreed
Higher wages at Union jobs raises noon union wages to compete, never forget this and don't blame workers for demanding wages keep up with inflation.
This^^ they use temp agencies to find desperate people to work for low wages.
That's every company now
Yup, and they will move more and more scope out to contractors to boot!
Right. Greed drives unions. It's a concentration of money and power to a few individuals who don't care about the big picture.
you would think they would have been happy to have a job. now, they are like the rest- and they will suck on the gubment titty
never forget, a job is at will. and if you are gonna be a bitch, you will not have that job. workers acting entitled is a real problem.
But they're the means of production!!11
they will be replaced soon.
Of overpriced shitboxes no one wants .
How many buzz phrases can we fit in one comment thread?
"You're Fired!" -Donald Trump
"You should be happy to have a job!"
YES- under Bidenomics.
Dumbass.
Can you show the math here?
Still waiting...
Good. Hope your Biden vote was worth it you morons.
Idiots can't see past their own nose.
Errections have consequences. Stop making new democrat voters.
I think most union workers voted Trump.
Not true. Union leaders are as corrupt as democrat leaders in govt. it’s all a big game.
He made a statement about union workers, you responded with a statement about union leaders.
Union leaders tell union members how to vote. Union members follow the guidance of the union leaders. Fact check that
They do? I don't interact with unionized workers much.
You should have said that in your first post.
Unfortunately, yes. Obviously it's not 100% but union leaders are pretty much always heavy democrat voters and donators, and around election season they spend a lot of time and money trying to influence the workers to vote the same way.
Start here: ILWU
And the union to whom they pay dues and for whom they jump at a moment’s notice endorsed Biden.
https://uaw.org/uaw-endorses-joseph-biden-president-united-states-america/amp/
Ah, so those union dues just went to the last steal and haven’t yet been allocated to the next one. Got it.
Show it, don’t say it.
Most union leaders are scummy leftists. Most union workers are on the right side of history.
I always equate unions with Democrats. Maybe that’s just leadership, dunno.
I equate Republicans with you training an H1-B to take your job
Uhhhhh....... you may just want to fact check yourself on that one. Union people are largely Blue No Matter Who! and the union itself will threaten jobs if Blue No Matter Who! doesnt get in.
They needed to lay people off. They will have to drop the price on their expensive vehicles. No one is paying $70k for a barebones F-150. No one is paying Mercedes money for a Grand Cherokee.
I'm glad.
But the grand Cherokee has a hemi... and Siri.... you are telling me that isn't worth 40k markup? But electrolytes....
Back before CAFE standards killed the light truck.
That's not what happened. The Ford Maverick wouldn't exist if it did.
I hear good things but bed needs to be a bit larger, the inside feels and looks cheap. Its a Ranger with a shorter bed.
Automakers killed it because it wasn't profitable enough for them. I genuinely doubt that CAFE had anything to do with it.
https://youtu.be/azI3nqrHEXM?si=PD4Vc3Zp61QDO6cv
You must be too lazy to look up CAFE.
We're headed towards "equity" with the rest of the third world
You think an average working guy in Saigon or Guadalajara can buy a new f150?
You'll have a 100cc scooter and be thankful for the privilege
If you need to haul lumber maybe get your buddy to follow behind on his scooter and hold the other end
I want a new Tundra, I make good money, I can buy a new Tundra, I cannot afford a new Tundra. The costs are ridiculous! 62k before taxes etc.
5year loan, $1200 a month.
HAHAHAHAHA NAW
I swear to God I used to think 65 or 70,000 was enough to make a living and now I don’t know how the fuck people do it.
Hashtag just inflation things
Even pre-covid 70k was like just a cut above getting by.
I could manage on that salary if I were single in an area with a lowish COL. With a family? No…
“Manage” shouldn’t be a goal :(
Our wealth is stolen
Unless it's imported from Japan a Toyota is assembled by non-union workers
Friend bought one new in 2008 for 30k.
Tundras are made by non-union workers. So why are they so expensive?
Reputation of Reliability. Thats why they fetch a higher price.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. More AI and automation or gimmiegrants flooding the labor market with cheap wages.
you played yourself Union dumb asses. they want to get rid of you anyway. they want to move production away from you. they will have Mexico build their new EV shit cars.
but by all means keep voting Democrat cause Democrats protect Unions
Unions should be outlawed. Don't like where you work or the pay, go work somewhere else.
Except your government sold out manufacturing to China
So now what?
Learn to code.
Can't tell if sarcasm or Thomas Friedman
Sarcasm, there are far too many people learning to code already and a lot of work can be outsourced. What is amusing is before getting a degree in agricultural science I studied coding, the dumb shit academic advisor told me that IT work in the US was dead and would all be done remotely from India and China and that coding was the far better option… my friends that continued studying coding/programming ended up in IT because they couldn’t find work in programming.
Honestly, I'm not sure about the future of coding jobs either. AI will probably take a lot of those jobs in the next decade, as it keeps improving.
Yeah, the tech industry is changing pretty rapidly, I’m glad I decided to get out of that field of study. I also found it pretty boring anyways.
There are still jobs for highly experienced software engineers. But getting that first entry-level coding job is really hard. Unless you tick the right DEI boxes…
Learn to see how many Indians got H1B
Union workers aren’t the bad guys
H1B visa workers aren't working in car factories. They're working for big tech companies determining what you and I are allowed to say on the internet. While the individual union worker may not be the bad guy, the union representation and then union as a whole is a cancer on American business.
That was in response to some guy saying they should learn to code
Get rid of the unions and it will become profitable for companies to make things here. They need workers to make things here. Get a government that isn't China's bitch and slap some big tariffs on anything not made here like most other countries that care about their citizens do. Problem solved.
Unions are the retarded idea that if you just marry your rapist he'll still rape you but at least he'll treat you a little better.
You can't solve anything with a Union, you can just kick the can down the road. If you think a Union is a good idea, then the entire industry you work in is monopolized and basically fucked and the Union will solve nothing for you.
If an industry is fucked
It’s the government which did that
Car companies have to follow nonsensical mileage standards that consumers don’t care about
Unions didn’t make those standards
Oh.. so, they only started the unions once the vehicle standards got passed into law? Or, did they exist for several decades before that?
I mean.. what point are you trying to make here? That Unions don't cause the problem? Yea, agreed. You'd still be retarded for joining one, though. It cannot possibly solve ANY problem, regardless of how it started.
There’s nothing wrong with private sector unions… Fuck you and your big government telling me and my friends we can’t unionize go fuck yourself commie.
Now if we’re talking about public sector unions. I completely agree with you.
Yeah, it's funny when people here want small government, except when it comes to things they don't like.
And it happens so often I’ve come to expect it.
Nah fuck you. All unions are parasite political retard orgs now
Yes, more laws will fix it. Because muh trust the gubmnt
Then why aren’t rice burners cheaper?
You are confusing "demand" with profit margin. The rice burners still have unions in America that build their cars, they just haven't been giving away the farm for 100 years.
Plus I'd rather buy a 60k Lexus that will last 200k miles than a 50k blazer that will last 2 years max.
Most foreign manufacturers that have production facilities in the US are non-unionized. Toyota/Mazda, Honda, and VW plans are all non-union. They change just enough less than the American manufacturers for it to be relevant to the purchasing decision of consumers.
Rice burner plants in the US are non-union
Not all. I have worked in almost every auto plant in the US when I was installing robots. Some of them are union.
Thanks for the correction.
I’d rather be in a casket than a fucking Tojo/rising sun special. The lamest , Dick softening cars on the planet. I’d reluctantly drive a kia first.
You think a GTR or a supra GR is a dick softening car? I love all cars... I don't get stuck in the old "herrr derrt Detroit muscle" bullshit as they ship more of our jobs to Mexico. Wake up dude.
Oh okay. Ricer burning halo cars. Are you 12? Hurr durr
Crazy to think about. There was once a time where a huge chunk of teenagers were driving around in civics and corollas for a reason.
Regardless of your view on unions, lawsuits are coming. You can’t be fired for striking or picketing.
Because unions are government mandated welfare institutions with extra steps.
From reading the article, the people who got laid off weren't the ones that are striking. They got laid off because they have nothing to do because the people who are striking aren't doing their jobs.
Try thinking illogically like anyone who can't see how horrible unions are and you'll get it.
Because withholding their labor enables workers to put pressure on their employers to negotiate for better conditions.
If you want to simp for billionaires you can go right ahead, I'll tell George Soros you're down with the plan.
its self regulating lol as nobody would work for that man.
GTFO Bernie Sanders. Being rich isn't a sin. It's a reward and a test.
Correct. The unions are fucking over everyone else because they aren't getting wined and dined to their liking.
All we want is a 40% raise and a 4 day/32 hour work week!
Trickle down Fuckunomics
IANAL, but it depends if it qualifies as a protected strike or not. Asking for a 40 hour workweek I don't think falls under an unfair labor practice. If the strike isn't defined as qualified, firing is an option.
They weren't fired... They were laid off.
Same thing. Your job is terminated and depending on locale may entitle you to severence.
Unions are amazing, for certain fields, not all fields.
They’re fantastic for communist agitators.
They've moved into the C-Suite
Unions are good for no one except the union representation getting rich off the backs of workers and Democrat politicians who they always donate to. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Not true, I've had buddies that the union protected when their shitty companies tried to fire them. A union can be a powerful tool. Now, when they're taking that money and donating it, that's where the zero tolerance comes in
Kill it.
Japanese vehicles are better in basically every way these days. More reliable, handle better, more efficient and economical.
Also, Japanese vehicles are more American than the big 3. A much larger percentage of components are sourced in the US.
I think Toyota is the most American car that isn't American.
They're more exciting too.
Ford must be kicking themselves for gutting the Focus ST and Fiesta ST as Toyota releases gems like the GR Supra, GR86, and GR Corolla.
Ford has so many great performance cars they'll never release in the States. Can't have a car outshine the Mustang!
Or have anything risk becoming more popular than government-coerced EVs very few people actually want, apparently.
I just checked the stock at a local dealer and they have nine of those stupid Mustang EVs on the lot.
Mustang EV is actually pretty cool. Fastest car I have ever been in. Still prefer Gasoline though. More dependable.
Because Toyota plants in the United States aren't unionized meaning they can produce quality vehicles at an affordable labor rate and not have to deal with union bullshit. Most foreign auto makers that have plants in the US are not unionized.
Safer too.
I'm most likely getting a Kia this fall as a next car (I know they are Korean)
haha what happened to "white pride"
clean up your act stormschmucks
It's not China, and I wouldn't mind supporting our allies in Japan. I'm in the market for a new car, and while my family has had brand loyalty to Ford my whole life, maybe it's time I break away and get something different.
It's fine, but lately there have been a lot of "mighty whitey" and other racist comments, most likely from bad actors, which I am satirizing. While I personally don't give a shit about "muh optics," it's VERY tone-deaf to insult, say, Asians and then use their products like Douyin instead of making your own.
Making automobiles more expensive for the rest of us. Assholes. I hate unions.
The question is, did they fire union workers or the remaining non-union workers?
They also don't have to negotiate and can hire scabs and just office space the union workers
Why have a society at all? Let's just hire other people to do it for us.
You guys better start learning Chinese if you want to keep those jobs. Oh, and you have to relocate to China, too. Ahhh sooooo, glasshoppa!! 🚗🦗
you could also learn spanish. they all have plans for EV production in Mexico
I can't wait for all those car-b-ques!
学习编码。
REEE China slave camps should be setup in America.
I hope the big 3 show that they can manage without these people and they revolt against the union.
Or people vote with their wallets and buy non union vehicles. The big 3 manufacture overpriced junk.
It won't be an issue anymore. Non-union vehicles will undersell union vehicles... and they are still mostly made in the USA.
Both of my VWs were assembled in TN. And I'm pretty sure almost all Honda are assembled here.
Same with Toyota and Tesla. Big 3 can suck it. They have only themselves to blame.
Don't forget Subaru
Where are the headquarters of VW and Honda located? That's where the profits go.
VW: Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany
Honda: Minato, Tokyo, Japan
Who cares where the executives make their money when the middle class people are losing their jobs to someone in another country.
They could already be doing that, but they don't.
Their are no good guys in this dispute. but If I had to pick a loser it would be the big 3. I want them to suffer since they don't care about us or the USA at all. electric cars are stupid. we are 50 years away from them being practical. so the push for electric cars is insane and is hurting every aspect of the economy.
They are practical right now.
50 years. Lol
they are not.
They should just move the companies to Mexico.
Compared to what?
Fuck the American car manufacturers for being EV loving knob gobblers. I only buy Japanese. The UAW can stay on strike forever for all I care.
32 hrs of work I believe. A four day work week.
Agreed
What have the Republicans done to dissuade that perception?
Nothing, in many cases it's true. Just look at this thread
Except in the long run, the right is still correct. Because if they keep this shit up they'll all be out of jobs when the factory closes and moves to Mexico. Hate to break it to them, but you can only demand ridiculous bullshit for so long before the company tell you to fuck off.
Hola! Vamos a Mexico!
Don't know what makes them think they're in a position of power. Like the big wigs needed any more reasons to relocate.
Perfect. Let’s give up the last bit of manufacturing we have to China and turn ourselves into a third world shithole.
ehem, "turn into"?
Yeah. Were already 99% there.
So automanufacturing is the next industry.to die then. Next step in the processs of destroying everything. It was gonna have to go sooner or later since the economy is going to implode and few can buy new. I gues this is how they are goi g to remove it.
This will make it even easier for me to not buy their overpriced poorly designed easily breakable garbage.
I love watching unions fail. They are part of the problem not the solution.
Funny - communists supporting communism in chyna and they all voted for Biden?!?!
Screw the big 3, they gouged us for years, they can all go to hell.
Fuck 'em. Both the Strikers and the manufacturers are greedy bastards that need a reality check.
They get paid too damn much already
So many people here will suck the dicks of giant corporations who want them dead the minute unions get involved. Kinda sad.
We're just in a kleptocratic shit show.
Buy Toyota, Made in Texas
