I grew up on BBSs and early internet (pre-graphical) back in the late 80s all the way through its destruction by the World Wide Web —coupled by being an urban paramedic for a decade). If the things you see were the determining factor, I’d be in real trouble lol.
I just think children need guidance and protection more than sheltering — they’re going to get exposed someday, and I’d just rather be the one they talked to rather than one of their peers.
I hear you, but stuff like rotten.com or Faces of Death is a lot different than teenage girls being told the world is going to end from climate change or that they're going to turn the world into a utopia by becoming a different sex. These kids are brainwashed. None of that stuff was happening with the early Internet.

There's a massive difference between old school BBS, and even the old school internet in general compared to post iphone internet/meat space full scale integration. Getting on the internet used to be like diving into an alternative world where social norms didn't really apply and it was a way to escape from the outside world. Now the internet dictates social norms and the apps that everyone generally use to interface with the internet are literal military grade social engineering projects. It's designed to squeeze as much serotonin out of you as possible.
Also, there's a difference between how things might affect you individually and how they effect the population generally.
As a teen I remember a BBS with games like red dragon that let you bang Violet, and there was a gigolo game where you're the guy and I rolled an 11 inch dong.

The climate fear porn came from my teachers, the internet cured me of that disillusion.
