One quick example of being charged high fees for nothing is the transportation company. $1800 for a 2 mile ride to the Dr. It's an ambulance type vehicle but not an ambulance. The driver knows first aid but is not an EMT or a nurse. He's a driver that puts people on and off a stretcher on wheels. That's it. Drivers make 18 to 23 an hour. Fifteen minutes. 1800 dollars. They are booked all day everyday. I can give more examples of other people who need help and other outrageous pricing, but I don't want to write a whole essay.

My experience dealing with criminals over a 25 year period, is that they are big and brave while amongst their homies, but get them alone, and they turn into pussies.

Convicts, when you confronted their behavior in front of their friends, would put on a show so they'd think he was a tough guy, only for him to turn into a wuss once you removed him from the area, and dealt with him on a one-on-one basis. Their whole demeanor would change, and they'd become all apologetic. When I saw the article above about the rioter who was putting on a show while on camera, then had tears streaming down her face when she was booked for her antics, it reminded me of the behavior of some inmates I came across over the years. Criminals are phonies, and will try to manipulate a situation as often as possible.
I was a Sergeant in NY State's prison system for about 12 years before I retired in 2003. On several occasions, when I had to take an inmate off his unit to put him in the box for disciplinary reasons, he would tell one of his buddies to call his Mommy, to tell her he was going to the box. His buddy would call the guy's mother, and inevitably, the mother would call the facility demanding to know why her son was being locked up. That's just another example of what babies inmates could be. Sometimes I'd be working as Chart Sergeant up front, and some mother would call in wanting to know why her son was taken to the box. The only thing you could tell her was that she would have to call back in the morning, and speak to his counselor to find the reason. We didn't give that info out.
And, like kids will play both parents against the other, to get their way, inmates will do the same thing. When they didn't like the answer they got from the officer, they'd come to me to see if they could get their way. I'd always tell them that whatever the officer said was the final answer. Plenty of them would then try to catch a Lieutenant or above to whine to, to see if they could get what they wanted, and there were times when a member of the brass would countermand the officer's order, or mine, and of course by doing that, they undermined those below them in rank, and it weakened your position in the eyes of the inmates. It was a constant problem in the department. Superintendents and Deputy Superintendents were all political appointments, and served at the convenience of the Commissioner, who was appointed by the Governor. We had a saying: "It's not who you know, it's who you blow" when it came to moving up the career ladder.
I went into work every day, and got paid for being entertained by either the inmates, the brass, or the Administrators. It'll be 20 years in December that I've been retired. I was one of the lucky ones. I got to live to retire. Plenty others I worked with over those years, and many younger than me, never lived long enough to be able to retire.
sad part is, DA & Judge will let her out on bond or drop the charges anyway, so nothing will happen & she'll get those nasty talons worked on by some struggling Asian lady who will get no tip from this low class piece of trash.
