The reality is that about the only thing that really happened is there was an ISIS fighter that tried to kill them, who was dying a painful and drawn out death, and Gallagher put him out of his misery. You know how many soldiers in WW1 and WW2 and Korea and so on said some of the hardest things they had to do was basically finish off their friends who had been so badly wounded they were dead. so why make them suffer for the next 20 minutes as they bleed out, just finish em off now. Those same actions would put countless people in jail now because they'd want to prosecute you for all of that.
That's all Gallagher did. He mercy killed the kid and some people tried to bury him for it. He didn't have the same feeling of loss because he was a piece of garbage ISIS trying to kill them.
Don't forget, it was his own peers that exonerated him and another Seal that had immunity and took the fall for the kill to screw up the trial.
The question we should be asking ourselves is this... why is the top brass so obsessed with prosecuting our own soldiers when on the battlefield sometimes the lines get a little blurred and things are not so black and white? We should be erring on the side of our soldiers.
