We already do, provided they are interested in MAGA.

spez: people can find us. The trolls and anti-semites have already made their appearance. Reasonable people can, too.

> Well now there’s no more zoning restrictions so some multinational corporation can buy your neighbors house, knock it down, and build a gas station.

They would only do that if it were profitable, which would mean as part of some larger development like a retail plaza. They aren't going to plop down a gas station in the middle of a residential area.

Besides, how would a multinational corporation even be recognized? Corporations are legal fictions created by governments to give them special privileges, basically immunity from liability.

In a situation with no government, you would have some kind of private arbitration instead, and some private association that would be representing your neighborhood and its interests. It's a lot harder to buy off lots of tiny private associations than it is to buy off local governments.

> More urgent would be the fact that if we abolished the government we’d have no military. China or Russia would just march in and take over and now you’re under a worse form of government.

Absurd. We have more guns than people, and we're separated by oceans. No foreign government has a chance to seize and hold any land here. They would be contending with some very well armed and pissed off folks.

Libertarianism is missing the lesson we all should learn from the founding of the US, but Anarcho-capitalism is the future if we are fortunate. (although that sub is cancer, they usually just want to bash the cops and US even though we are the best example of freedom in the world)

Basic fact of human nature: the vast majority want to be ruled over and, worse, there are always people willing to fulfill that role, rarely from altruistic impulses. Thus, we get rid of our overbearing DC overlords? Great! Now authority devolves to regions, and then states, then counties, and so on, *right down to your local cartel/war lord . . . who personally knows your name. Great. You thought Federal overreach was unbearable? Try the local drug lord's overreach. Just ask any Mexican dwelling along our southern border.

Oh, they can tell you all about anarcho-capitalism: at least the Feds aren't wiping out, butchering and beheading entire families, including infants, just to send a "message". Yeah Ruby Ridge, Lavoy Finnicum -- I know! BUT NOT EVERY DAMN DAY; no, that's "local" war lord stuff.

And believe me, you WILL have one form of government, or another. There is no escaping it. It's the price of being a herd animal. Libertarianism is the dream of those who fancy we're Lone Wolves. We are not.

As for us all being so well-armed, who needs a military? Yeah, we don't need leaders to organize, train, and lead us into well-planned, well strategized battles! IOW, who needs an actual, professional military to go up against actual, professional, militaries PLURAL? We'll just shoot 'em with our AR15s!

And once a society devolves to that level, you'd be thrilled to have them build a gas station next to you, 'cause you'd be thrilled they're building one anywhere: the fact is, in disorganized, anarchic "libertarian" societies, no one builds much of anything, anywhere. The "leaders" are too busy destroying, killing, raping and plundering, and everyone else is too frightened and demoralized; it's all they can do to stay alive and out of the local war lord's way.

Mexicans are not allowed to even own guns, first of all. Second, they have a government, so how do you explain the local drug warlords? It's easy for me, it's their culture, which means it's not something I have to worry about unless we turn into Mexico, which we are at this rate given that our government is happily subsidizing any slob willing to get across the border.

> And believe me, you WILL have one form of government, or another. There is no escaping it. It's the price of being a herd animal.

Oh the irony. The only reason we will have a government is because people continue to believe it is necessary, precisely as you do. You think not having a government means being a lone wolf? That's not what I'm talking about at all. It's not either you have a massive federal state or you live by yourself in the woods...

> As for us all being so well-armed, who needs a military? Yeah, we don't need leaders to organize, train, and lead us into well-planned, well strategized battles! Worked for the founders. Hell, works for Al Qaeda and ISIS. We never seem to totally get rid of them.

Let me ask you, why do countries invade each other? They do it because if they take over, they gain a tax base. That's exactly what Hitler did when he was steamrolling over Europe. If there is no tax base because people aren't compliant sheep, then it's more trouble to invade than it's worth. (people tend to pick weaker foes, in general)

> And once a society devolves to that level, you'd be thrilled to have them build a gas station next to you, 'cause you'd be thrilled they're building one anywhere: the fact is, in disorganized, anarchic "libertarian" societies, no one builds much of anything, anywhere. Interesting choice of word. You seem to believe we would be less civilized if we didn't have a boot on our necks... Libertarians are not a good example, most of them just want to smoke weed and never have to experience personal responsibility.

The founding fathers did the best they could with the knowledge that they had. They created the most free society with the smallest government the world has ever seen. And what was the result of that experiment? The largest and most powerful state the world has ever seen.

> You’re missing the point. A gas station is just the start. The shopping plaza comes next.

You mean like gentrification? I don't take issue with businesses buying land and moving in to service people's needs.

> And sure we have more guns than people. With no military, navy, Air Force, etc. we’d have two choices - become the military ourselves, which would basically become a 24/7 job for EVERYONE, or be ruled by Russia or China.

We would have no military as it is today, but if it were necessary, we could have private defense forces. We wouldn't have a fake currency or be giving billions in kickbacks to other countries and corrupt politicians, so we could afford it.

fuck reddit. people should start making their own forum site communities and leave reddit in the dust

JoePCool14 12 points ago +12 / -0

This big league. We need to return to the days of the old web, where all different communities had their own forums where they set the rules, they create their design, they set the tone. Stop giving all that power to a handful of website to let them further their narratives. Independence from social media is a beautiful thing, believe me.

every community should make their own site and have their own forum on it. it's very efficient to make a site these days.

It'd great if someone put reddit's site code out in the open so any community could host their own mass exodus.

Holy shit is that evidence of a thread on Reddit that includes people having a thoughtful conversation without baning and deleting half of the posts????

Agree 100%. Once TDW admins are comfortable with the status of the project, open sourcing so that others can build their own doms will go a long way toward taking away reddit's power and influence. If anyone can spin up a modern clone (or, most likely an improved version) of reddit, what's their play? Communities are already mostly siloed and no one gives a shit about their attempts to bridge the gaps between communities.

tl;dr fuck reddit, open source TDW.

randomusename 6 points ago +6 / -0

They should absolutely do similar and create their own .win site. Decentralize reddit. Create a plugin like RES to link the communities together and maybe share profiles between them if users want that with a drop down of their subs like the my subreddits in RES, if not they can just access their communities directly.

Spez: posted the same in that thread. the people who know how to do that should make it happen.
