Yes honestly using GoDaddy was surprising, it is kind of amateur hour. GoDaddy cancelled Gab for crying out loud. Admins should get to another provider.
I bet tons of us would love to work for such an endeavor. There are lots more technical centipedes here than one would imagine, and to be able to work to help people get solid hosting that won't back down to the mob would make working every day a joy.
I am not rich, but I have the right background and have built pretty much the exact same infrastructure, and if I were less risk adverse I could raise enough capital to fund such a project. I have actually given tons of thought about this, and was ready to quit my job and go all in. However, before doing anything rash, I started doing tons research on similar hosting platforms and websites, and read a lot about the problems that the "fee speech no matter what" and the staunchly libertarian hosting platforms and websites have run into. I soon realized it would not be worth it, and I would probably lose more money and put myself in legal jeopardy, not to mention the permanent label of being a notorious bigot, sexist, racist, Nazi, etc. My conclusion is that there has to be some type of regulation, but it is a slippery slope between offering something open and unique that has a net positive for the free speech movement, and turning into something that is not much different from other companies out their that have way more resources to spend on the legal aspects.
What I really learned when reading the stories of people who have done similar things, is that what ends up happening is tons of extremely controversial and frankly crazy people all flock to your servers and if you don't regulate what you will host in an appropriate, yet just above an acceptable level that is not too heavy handed, then the problems that the controversial crazy people bring with them, will soon become your own problems. Do you set limits to what you will host? You will absolutrly need to, but how much is within then limits are acceptable? If you allow a free for all, then otherwise you will be inundated with the KKK, actual Neo-Nazis, possibly other violent White and Black Supremacist movements, drug dealers, Pedophiles, unsollicited revenge porn, people who dox and target others for violence and criminal harassment, terroristic threats and planning, tons of slanderous and libelous content, one really important issue which is the vast amount of copyright infringement claims, and a whole host of other really bad shit that will land you in legal jeopardy.
Everyone deserves free speech, but you will run into problems when your clients allow very illegal shit to occur on their websites which will end up on the servers that are in your possession. Normally the website creator would be solely responsible for the content on their website. However, recently there have been a number of disturbing cases where the hosting service provider has been found liable for what is on their servers, and therein lies the rub. Now hosting providers must keep a keen eye of what is in their servers, and that basically turns your job into a defacto thought police. People will post plans about mass murder and then publish their manifestos, and there will be tons of other illegal behavior going on that crosses the line of free speech as I have mentioned previously. The subpoenas and visits from local Police, federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, and probably the NSA would be never ending and that would tie up so much time and money that I don't think it would be worth it. I am not making a guess either, I know this for a fact because such agencies have approached me before when we were hosting email servers that many people were using. As we have all learned, they don't give a shit about the 4th and they pressure you to allow them to abuse your user's rights.
However, if we used rules that stick to the Classical Liberal principles of free speech and allow for controversial content within an acceptable level of taste that would help ferment free and open discussion and debate, then I think that would work really well. However, then you will have the crazies that know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes, who will come out and calling you a Lefty cuck because you won't allow the insane shit that I discussed earlier. The people you are trying to help will grow to hate you, and you will make tons of enemies when the special interests groups who are out to censor catch wind of what you are doing. I just saw it as something that would not be worth it.
I am not talking about rules regarding minor controversial topics like the many subs that were banned from Reddit. I would definitely allow way more controversial shit, and websites like this would absolutely be allowed because I don't even view them as controversial. If whoever hosts this sites kicks us out, I will start to look into it again. Because at that point it is clear they are just censoring Conservatives and right-leaning individuals who have only in the last 5 years had their beliefs labeled as controversial by the authoritarian left.
Sorry for my spelling and grammar, I typed this on my phone while waiting for the train.
TLDR: If you want to become a free for all hosting provider, recent court case rulings basically mean that you must become a 24/7 thought police enforcer or you may become liable for the content that is on your servers.
I own a freedom loving web hosting company in a large, secure data center. I have servers, my own IP addresses, 8 Fiber Connections with 100 Gigabit of connectivity., DDoS protection. Been hosting since 1995. I can support any website or service. We currently host about 1,000 websites and virtual servers. I hosted the Daily Paul for 6+ years.
I've been thinking the same thing. Based replacements for godaddy and cloudflare.

Let's just make our own internet!
I'm sure several of us would donate to something like that as well!
We need our own everything. We have to understand that everything that Hitler did to the jews is what the socialists will do to us.
