IF it does indeed go to the Senate for a trial, can someone explain to me how people running for POTUS such as Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar could actually vote to convict without a conflict of interest? It would be like having Steve Jobs on the jury to determine whether Microsoft had and abused their monopoly.
Worse, they all have to end their campaigns. They have to sequester themselves in DC with the rest of the senate for the hearings. No election for them.
It also takes a huge chunk out of fundraising for the rest of the senate as well, and those hearings would take the better part of a year.
Just think of all the mischief we could cause. Call on them to either end their campaigns or recuse themselves. Of course the Democrats would object to that and the argument would go all the way to the supreme court. By which time it is 2021.
To sum up the article in terms of football. Trump is like a coach sitting on a big lead late in the fourth quarter. He has already shown he has the better team and now has the option to just run out the clock.
>a Senate trial that would require "Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar [to] be removed from the campaign trail until further notice..."
I can see the DNC being completely okay with this. They've pretty much already decided on Biden. Remember, primaries are only for show with the DNC.
If it got to the senate it would turn into a real trial with real subpoenas and real consequences for lying and real interrogations. Not the shit show that's going on right now. Wouldn't that be their worst fear is for the Senate to turn the lights on because right now it's just roaches running around the floor under a circus tent. Once the lights came on just about anyone is fair game for questioning under oath. Like that means anything to democraps though.

This whole sham reminds me of that movie Official Secrets. The parallels are uncanny.

At least that's my understanding.
>implying the Dems won't drag this through the entire 2020 campaign smearing Trump and hoping for a miracle
It's almost too bad, I want a Senate trial so Shifty's lies and scheming can come into the light. I want to see him "talk under oath"!
