Bloomberg: "The bill passed with 417-1 for and against, a majority that even Trumps veto power couldn't stop." Fuck Bloomberg. Really? Like he was against signing it?!

Hate will find a way, Trump could save 50 kids from a burning bus and they would say he did it for publicity.

Siteless_Vagrant 23 points ago +23 / -0

Hell, he signed that animal cruelty bill this week and people were ripping it to shreds on twitter. Buncha jack offs.

Trump signed what? Shit, we hate animals now!

To shreds, you say?

Like is often said, Trump could cure cancer and people would complain that he's putting doctors out of a job.

POTUS also signed another bill that prohibits the export of crowd control equipment to Hong Kong police.

Communist China is piiiiiiissssed. Again.

I love that we have a President who isn't afraid to stand up to communists, as well as stand up for liberty and freedom.

Thank God for President Trump!

Great steps! I hope more can be done for HK soon

It's pretty much the most we can do apart for more sanctions just for Hong Kong. That and war I guess.

KiltedTailor 11 points ago +11 / -0

Its a nice gesture, but empty with out something to it. SideBar, I note the UN is silent{or am I wrong} on this issue

4
PoohClimbsTrees 4 points ago +4 / -0

Watch Chona3mealt down over this. It will be interesting to watch. It will have an effect on trade negotiations amd President Trump knew that when it signed it.

This plays perfectly into his China game.

3
redis_help 3 points ago +3 / -0

China has a permanent seat on the Security Council and can veto anything. The UN is a waste.

2
Patriotpede45 2 points ago +2 / -0

China also has put forth it's own ccp member to be in charge of the UN global IP program... what a fucking joke

1
julianReyes 1 point ago +1 / -0

Say that again when you have stonks on the line, traders are paying very close attention.

And the UN partially caused all this strife to begin with with the UPU garbage.

2
Patriotpede45 2 points ago +2 / -0

The UN is almost entirely bought off with Chinese money (our money as far as I'm concerned). It's a farce.

Edit: I'm an options trader BTW, I do have stocks on the table that will be affected, but not badly because I do not invest in anything lately that China can hurt and I will always put my country over short term profits and to hell with anyone who doesnt .

This is actually at the top of worldnews on reddit with 43K upvotes. Same story is on /r/politics but only 455 upvotes but it's still kind of a win because its 95% upvoted even by the TDS clowns there.

Maybe we can brigade and actually get a pro-Trump story to the top of /r/politics for once without it being removed. Who knows...maybe even someone with TDS over there might say "Wow, Trumps not so bad after all" and actually come into the light.

A wasted effort. Shill filled subs on reddit are worth nothing. Get the word out to people on other platforms. Support from liberty and justice is common ground that even those who are adamant trump haters but otherwise don't engage in heavy social media will acknowledge.

Adam Schiff demands Trump retract support for Hong Kong democracy in 3...2...1...

3
bubblegummy 3 points ago +3 / -0

The Chinese communist party CCP needs tbe terminated, eliminated from this world. Hong Kong is the start of its death spiral.

CCP sent their own police and army into Hong Kong and make them dress like Hong Kong police. They then arrested protesters and made many of them suicided and disappeared. CCP also had undercovers mixed in the protesters to cause damages then accused the protesters for rioting and being terrorist. Pure evil! You don't hear these from the MSM.

Trump did a great thing to help Hong Kong.

I just got back from a short trip to Canada. Spoke with some folks about "all those guns" we have down here. I reminded them that any government big enough to give you everything is also big enough to take it away (forgive for not quoting). When they asked if we really believed the government would turn on it's own people, I reminded them about how we became free in the first place, and simply said "Hong Kong". Then I politely pointed out the Hong Kong protesters were waving American flags in their gatherings, not maple leafs. Beautiful country and great people up North, but God Bless the USA, and Godspeed to the Hong Kong protesters.

Here's a link to the text of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/3289/text

Summary: "This bill addresses Hong Kong's status under U.S. law and imposes sanctions on those responsible for human rights violations in Hong Kong. (Hong Kong is part of China but has a largely separate legal and economic system.)

"The Department of State shall certify annually to Congress as to whether Hong Kong warrants its unique treatment under various treaties, agreements, and U.S. law. The analysis shall evaluate whether Hong Kong is upholding the rule of law and protecting rights enumerated in various documents, including (1) the agreement between the United Kingdom and China regarding Hong Kong's return to China, and (2) the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

"The bill extends existing annual reporting requirements on matters of U.S. interest in Hong Kong through 2027 and expands such reports to include assessments of (1) limits to Hong Kong's autonomy, either self-imposed or due to China's actions; and (2) whether rescission of Hong Kong's special treatment would further erode Hong Kong's autonomy.

"The President shall annually report to Congress on Hong Kong's enforcement of U.S. export controls, including whether items of U.S. origin have been used for mass surveillance in China and whether Hong Kong has been used to evade sanctions on North Korea or Iran.

"The State Department shall notify Congress if any proposed or enacted law in Hong Kong negatively impacts U.S. interests, including by putting U.S. citizens at risk of rendition to China.

"The President shall impose property and visa-blocking sanctions on foreign persons responsible for gross human rights violations in Hong Kong."

How in America was this passed with full bipartisan support?!

This has been a major story on zerohedge for most of the day, markets don't take a lot to get spooked when there is nothing fundamental propping up any overvaluation, and china is ripe for any random catalyst event to pop up.

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/futures-tumble-after-trump-signs-bill-backing-hong-kong-protesters-defying-china

The overriding question is, who do you back in this stand-off, China who are getting knocked back down every time they have started shit in the last 3 years, or Donald who is the implacable monolith around which the storm blows and rages and amounts to nothing in the end.

Maybe we can take HK after Greenland is annexed!
