As much as I want to purge the cartels, I think we should do this carefully. Cartels are very much within the US borders and could potentially go after innocents when attacked. If we do against the cartels, I'd say it needs to be quick and all-encompassing. I trust Trump has a plan, but I imagine this could be like going against a hydra.
If Trump declares the Mexican cartels to be terrorists, that should allow him to circumvent the Posse Comitatus Act and send the military after their cohorts inside the U.S. - its no longer a "law enforcement" issue, its a foreign insurgency.

The US govt should have declared the cartels a terrorist organization a long time ago.
One thing I noticed is that the Mexican govt is still pushing the lie that the US is the main supplier of illegal weapons in Mexico. There is zero chance that all of the automatic weapons that the cartel has are from the US.
Narcos have been a greater threat to Americans than Alquaeda, ISIS, The Nazis, Santa and bad luck combined. Year in year out tens of thousands die, then there is the economic damage tied to the drug trade and remissions not related to the drug trade.
