We have been there and done that - marched our troops right through Mexico City.

Congress debated, for about a week, whether or not we should just absorb Mexico.

They made a wise decision to buy the depopulated wastelands (California, New Mexico, Arizona, etc.) and hand the rest of that disaster back to the Mexicans.
