Watching them cleanse this website of anything slightly controversial in order to blow marketers is the lamest thing I've ever seen. Look at the front page now. Ad, ad, boring shit, ad, disguised ad, political ad, celebrity ad. We've reached a point where Republicans quarantined on this website for literally no other crime other than DISAGREEING that we should base our policies off celebrity opinions and tweets from random strangers on the internet. And you want to know why? Because the dumb, liberal, city idiots are the ones eating up the bullshit stupid Keanu Fucking Reeves-pets-a-kitten level marketing. And then going to see John Wick because Keanu Reeves is in it, and even though they don't know him they feel attached to him because his PR team and Movie production company Marketing teams are sitting there day after day trying to think of memes about Keanu to post. I don't think people understand how much advertising is a part of the culture wars. Does Christmas look anything like a celebration of the birth Jesus anymore? No. Because marketers made a lot of money selling toy ads. Does the NFL seems like it fuckin' sucks now? That's because there's not enough mintues of advertising in a run-heavy game. So the NFL changed the rule books to encourage pass-heavy games. Defensive players literally cannot touch wide receivers or quarterbacks now. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of them playing football? All to get more game clock stoppage, aka more time for advertising. It's not that they're trying to ruin these products, it's that they don't realize they're parasitic to the product and eventually will kill it. They always end up interfering with whatever made the product a great product in the first place. Look at Reddit and their stance on Free-Speech now.

There's also a push to be more advertiser friendly in international markets who don't give a shit about your free-speech rights, and would rather have 'distasteful' speech removed from their advertising platforms. The whole segmentation of 'hate-speech' as being different from 'free-speech' is an entirely new thing.
I can't seem remember the concept being forked prior to 2010. PC speech goes back far further into the 90s but the idea that 'hate speech' isn't 'protected speech' seems a 2010s phenom.
The only idea I can think of is pushing back that 'hate speech' is 'distateful - but protected'. Which it always has been. No majority promotes dissenting speech (that'd be oxymoronic), but it's still speech. The dissenting is what makes it important.
So true. NBA in China, goddamnn pussies
Yep. Like you care what shitheads running China think? Why? Fuck you.
(Not you OP.)
