Nobody's perfect, including Israel. Just because some terrible things (which were undoubtedly attricious) happened to a nation's people several decades ago doesn't give that nation a right to go without criticism. They should be held to the same standard as everyone else.
For example, take a look at the attack on the USS Liberty.
Nobody is above criticism, you're right. Israel, however, is relentlessly criticized non-stop. When last did western media have anything good (or even remotely impartial) to say about Israel? A thousand Palestinian rockets are fired into Israel and the media says nothing, but let Israel fire even one in self defense or retaliation...
This is going to sound very odd, but you have to look at who is the media. No, im not going to go all "muh jewish conspiracy" mode or imply its all nepotism, but Jews are very big in the media and entertainment industries. Best comparison is like how blacks account for some small % of the national population but represent an overwhelming proportion in professional sports.
The point being is Jews can criticize other Jews (and do quite often), but we are anti-semitic if one of us does.
The USS Liberty is often brought up as an excuse to criticize Israel. I’m not saying there are no legitimate reasons to criticize them, but this is not one. Both Israel and the official US position agree that the Liberty was mistaken for an enemy Egyptian war ship. It was cruising in an active war zone during a hot war with 3 Arab countries over 50 years ago. I know there are some conspiracy theories out there for other explanations, but to use this as an example of a valid criticism is really reaching.
Fair point. IMO I'm not very anti-Israel at all, its just a facet of geopolitics that finds itself in its own tangled web of interconnected circumstances. Sometimes, I like to play devil's advocate to see if I can see the other side within reason. "USS Liberty" isnt the best argument, nor is the fact that they haven't signed the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty. Sometimes I can try, fail, and learn.
REALLY?!?! You suck, swallow and peddle the "official" Isreal/US position that the USS Liberty was a case of mistaken identity. LOLOL Change your name to GrumpyIsraeli.
