For me, it began when the 300 unit apartment complex I was managing, became overrun with illegals. I saw their forms of income, with my own eyes. I saw them get away with all kinds of crime, from a stabbing, drunken car accidents, burglary, assault and battery, identity theft, receiving welfare while working under the table. That’s when I opened my eyes.

I lived in Huntington Beach, Ca during High School years. Just hung out at the beach, smoked pot. I was in a perpetual state of ignorance. I didn’t give it much thought, until moving to a lower income area of So. Cal. Supporting myself and working full time. Then, the demographics of the apartments I managed became more and more illegal Mexican. Before then, it was out of sight out of mind.

Edit: there was also the time state Marshall came to arrest a cartel guy, who was on the top 10 most wanted. He was known for dipping people in boiling oil. He was living there with his girlfriend. He was always the one to come in the office and give me the rent check.
