This is a call for a general strike. In addition to the transportation strikes teachers, students & others will be joining in. It is estimated that 70% of elementary schools will be closed across the country. High schools will most likely be barricaded by students.

An elementary school principal committed suicide in her school recently. She worked in a Paris suburb, so I can only imagine the horrible working conditions. (Not in article, from a source in France.) This is partly the reason for the strike, with the main reason being changes to the pension system.

Postal workers will also join in, as will many other public sector workers. This is an indefinite strike which may last days, weeks or even a month.

Notice the timing: right before the Christmas shopping season. Last year the Yellow Vest movement started in mid November, with protesters often blocking the entrances to big box store shopping centres or retail streets.

With a sales tax of approx. 20%, higher on luxury items, the French gov't of Macron lost millions in tax revenue last year. This year looks like a repeat with even more chaos added in.
