He still claims to be a leftist and has a lot of left-leaning beliefs, he's only really right-leaning in that he's willing to tell the truth about the left when it doesn't look good.

It's weird that there isn't really a place for people like that in society anymore. He's sort of like a renegade journalist that never converted to corporate activism.
