So, someone thinks the Republicans in the Senate would be willing to give up a Republican Presidency with a 52% approval rating even in the middle of a faux impeachment? Seriously?
I didn't say that. They aren't willing to impeach because Trump is popular with the Republican base, but if that wasn't the case, they would gladly vote to impeach. The GOP senators are mostly globalists working for their donors.
Nazis used a similar tactic to pass the enabling act. If there is a way to get their goals accomplished democrats will try to find a way whether democratic or not
I don't know how much power McConnell will have outside of the trial, but the Chief Justice (Roberts) actually hears the case and will have his say about process.
This is not a concern troll, it is a warning. The text of the Constitution clearly says that conviction by the Senate shall be by 2/3 of the MEMBERS PRESENT, not of the entire Senate.
Look it up yourself. You get me? There is fuckery coming, you mark my words.
This whole notion that “oh, Trump is totally safe with a (slim) GOP majority in the Senate because they’ll never convince 20 Senators to switch sides,” is reckless, and it’s wrong.
They need 2/3 of the MEMBERS PRESENT. Just remember that.
Schumer convenes surprise Senate conviction vote on Christmas Day, while all Republican Senators are at home with their families? Would it play out like this:
All in favor say "aye." "AYE!" All opposed? >silence< "The President is hereby convicted and removed from office." Mueller's FBI starts boxing up files and expelling all White House staff. Pence is forced to recuse himself from assuming the Presidency. Nancy Pelosi is inaugurated as the true 45th president. Trump deleted from history.
They (including the GOPe) would do it if they thought the people would accept it. They don't think that.

Any R who votes for it is finished

Zanax not working anymore

McConnell will send Federal Marshals to get these people if he doesn't have them PRESENT.

Ummmm
Shummer doesn't run the Senate
OK--> Secret meeting for new rules--> Now Schumer runs the Senate. Isn't that how this works? Source: Schiff
I don’t know the nuts and bolts of how plausible that is, but I think we both get the point.
Maybe the Senate convenes a “jury” of Senators so that not everyone needs to attend? What if half of the GOP jurors are Romney-types?
It's good to be aware of all possibilities to prepare to counter.
I should think the counter move would be militia
You’re totally right. Hate to say it but some on here are delusional about winning and trusting the plan.
Last year, an attempt was made to derail a train with a bunch of republican senators going on a retreat.
Not that far outside of the realm of possibility. This is a valid concern.
