When Duck Duck Go came out I caught them tracking users. They wouldn't admit to it and eventually just removed the "feature" that would show a recommended link from my [search history].
How would they know my history if they aren't keeping track of it even in the most limited way? I have no reason E: NOT to believe they continue to track users but learned not to tell them.
Then Yahoo bought them using bailout money borrowed from google (true story), and Yahoo! rebranded Lycos as DDG and that's when DDG turned evil and bad. I proved this by side by side comparison A/B test on several extremely unique queries with about 20 terms. The results were identical between DDG and Lycos, the likelihood of that is something like winning mega millions 20 times
DDG is an aggregate site that uses results from a number of different search engines which may well include Lycos so by design you will get identical search result returns on DDG versus any number of other search engines. That's where the search results come from so your lottery analogy is only applicable if you mean those math guys that bought every single available lottery number combination when the payout was greater than the cost of doing so.
I can't find any references to the bailout you describe, with the latest funding news being Union Square Ventures (VC's) and an angle investor giving them a cash boost in 2011.
I use Google to spite them. If they don't give me the results I want I search for another search engine. Then I go into Gmail and write a stern letter but I leave it in my drafts folder. I'm sure they get the message.
Google doesn't make money off you directly. They make money stealing all of your ideas, your cyber 'tracks', and any other information about you, which ALL the other news / blogs sites but this one use embedded google software to steal information (google analytics and google search embedded installed on nearly every wordpress / CMS site)
When a service is FREE, the product IS YOU (your information)
They collect such an astounding amount of info on us that we don't even understand it
Just found it interesting that they block the_donald. I use duck once in a while, but Google still has better results than most search engines. I suppose I could try Bing.
It's difficult to know if GOOGLE is doing this or if REDDIT is doing this
If anything, it's a collusion between the two. In other words, google won't scrape parts of a website you tell google specifically NOT to scrape (robots.txt). Google sometimes will ignore robots, or will dishonor a websites' attempts to inhibit google from scraping the site, but this is rare.
But when there's an entire sub (or other properties, such as a specific user's posts, it's a good bet that REDDIT has put something there at the ADMIN level (you cannot change) causing that sub to be 'delisted' (not scrapeable) by google or other engines
They do this to quarantines subs, and to shitty users or posts they deem delistable
I found that they were able to inhibit certain posts and keywords by using GOOGLE AD MANAGER (GAM) software on reddit to place flags on that post that would inhibit google from scraping.
Thus reddit found an innovative "plausible deniability' way to communicate with google without communicating explicitly or directly with google
In this way, GAM acted as a kind of "delisting warrant canary" that informed google not to scrape...in other words, if GAM placed a tiny sector (a div at the VERY END of the post in the lower right hand corner, with zero height and made display:none in CSS), they could pack flags for google to 'see' and would delist that page from the google index.
I would sign an affadavit in court wth my expert programming background to testify to these actions provisionally, but I would require full subpoena power in discovery to make that affadavit to verify; because by the time I write this, I have no time machine to go back and prove an airtight case; I only have screenshots and thin evidence. Still it was enough that another site published my article about it, and it was safe enough to say allegedly.
Until then, disclaimer the above is for entertainment purposes only
This is why you archive offsite. When they try to change history at the 'authoritative source' many will have archived the originals and be able to show the fraud.
One thing to keep in mind is that if Google's indexer visits /r/the_donald, it will encounter a quarantine message, and will not see any of the individual posts. So, Google's search engine can't even see the list of recent posts to see the "Merry Christmas" post.
(Google did completely de-list /r/the_donald for a while in the past, though. That was enough for me to start shifting over to using other services, such as hosting my own e-mail.)
It's crap. I'm now searching for a new service that's faster and less annoying. The free version doesn't do nearly as m uch as gmail
One HUGE issue with protonmail.com is that you cannot search the contents of your emails, you can ONLY search the subject line. They have a technical reason that doesn't make sense to me, because I am a programmer and know their reason is not true (not a real technical limitation). So this business decision is stupid and I'm leaving when I find something better
i guess my point is it's good enough for now, if you don't need your contacts app (only stores emails, not phone) or searching email message text
A ProtonMail subscription lets you access your e-mail via a locally installed mail client, such as Outlook or Thunderbird. It involves installing a separate program called ProtonMail Bridge which handles communication between their server and the client software, taking care of all the encrypting and decrypting.
Update from ProtonMail Support October 16, 2019 at 2:35 pm:
"This is coming after the redesign of our client apps."
It's not a simple problem as their primary design point is encrypted communications. If a server can read your email to conduct a search then it would be a possible attack vector. I agree half a decade to develop it is a bit of a stretch though.
I'm completely self-hosted for e-mail. It was a nightmare to get up and running, and there's occasional instances where other e-mail series block e-mail from me because my server's a little guy (in other words, same profile as a spammer's e-mail server).
It means that Google has not yet indexed, or refuses to index thedonald.win
At one point, if I wanted to find something I wrote in the past on reddit, I would search just reddit.com site and my username and a keyword I knew was in the writing. Google would find it, within the first 3 results
But then google (and reddit) decided I was a shitty person. Google deleted all three of my accounts--all linked together (2 were business related)--without reason or notice, and I can't contact them to undo it. I still do not know why they did this. It ought to be illegal
at the same time google did this, reddit mallciously altered account password causing a malicious reset and account lock, and changing my account email to something else to attempt to throw me under the bus. I had to petition and have other people vouch for me and they finally restored it
OK so the end result is this: if I try to find my past stuff on reddit now, google has removed stuff with my name on it on google. The stuff still exists, but it's removed from the index now on google. I know this because BING, DDG and others still have these listed; however that is changing also...increasingly this stuff is being removed from search results....
Krystal-nacht is coming for The_Donald. Their ghetto will be razed and the cattle cars filled. Reddit has had about enough of them 'infecting' their website.
Quarantined? Is that the same as a social media concentration camp?
Why are you still using Google? I mean, it's a good idea to post here first anyways, but use a different search engine, seriously.

DDG used to be good.
Then Yahoo bought them using bailout money borrowed from google (true story), and Yahoo! rebranded Lycos as DDG and that's when DDG turned evil and bad. What search engine is your ‘go-to’ now? I’ve been naively using DDG.
DDG is an aggregate site that uses results from a number of different search engines which may well include Lycos so by design you will get identical search result returns on DDG versus any number of other search engines. That's where the search results come from so your lottery analogy is only applicable if you mean those math guys that bought every single available lottery number combination when the payout was greater than the cost of doing so.

...and to prop up their clicks numbers to sell ads.
Just found it interesting that they block the_donald. I use duck once in a while, but Google still has better results than most search engines. I suppose I could try Bing.
"Google still has better results than most search engines"
I left Google because it hides news articles that I know exist.
Jesus Christ is Lord
Bacon is divine, donuts are holey.
Mmm donuts
Td cannot be scraped on Reddit bc of quarantine, which is why Google can't find anything. The quarantine is more pernicious than you thought.
You also won't find the link from Reddit on ddg bc if the quarantine.

I know how web scraping works. This is definitely Reddit. You'll see the same problem with Google on Duck Duck Go.
Or, don’t use google. Hard left propaganda feeding garbage search engine. Abandoned it years ago.
This is why you archive offsite. When they try to change history at the 'authoritative source' many will have archived the originals and be able to show the fraud.

What email service did you switch to? I'm still stuck on google for that.
I like protonmail.com

Protonmail here as well--Encryption is key. Encrypt all

Merry Christmas Frens!
Until google performs more "search optimizations"

The cucks at reddit have turned off google indexing of "The_Donald" All part of the quarantine.
I don't think it's Google, I think reddit sets quarantined subs so they can't be crawled. Am I right in this?
Stop using google.
"Google..." - I found your problem, mate.
Krystal-nacht is coming for The_Donald. Their ghetto will be razed and the cattle cars filled. Reddit has had about enough of them 'infecting' their website.
Quarantined? Is that the same as a social media concentration camp?
Yes. Yes it is.
