There are a lot of registered Republicans who identify as libertarian or have been heavily influenced by libertarian thought- think of someone like Justin Amash. Well, he's no longer a Republican cause of his TDS but you get the point. Many of those Republicans have pushed hard, along with Democrats, for mass immigration in recent decades and I feel this has proven to be a disaster for the quality of life for native born Americans. They tend to rely on propaganda/misinformation/talking points put out by libertarian think tanks and media outlets like Reason. I agree with libertarians on a ton of issues, but when it comes to immigration many of them are not at all America First. In fact, they're the opposite. What they want would be a disaster for the country. Extremely limited immigration of highly qualified people who have actual skills that are truly needed and who would contribute, I'm okay with that. That is not at all what most libertarians have traditionally favored. Having said that, I've noticed that a lot of younger libertarians are much more reasonable when it comes to immigration.
I think globalist Republicans align with Libertarians on mass immigration because it suits the industrialist need for cheap labor and overall wage reduction; the Libertarian position derives from (ironically) a Randian approach to competition in the labor market.
The Trumpian approach seems to be a balance between the need for qualified people vs. the existing labor market and support infrastructure.
I do agree that a desire for cheap labor is the true reason many Republican elites support mass immigration, though they almost never say that and instead fall back on libertarian or leftist talking points.
