If you're in Immigration Detention and you tell them you want to go home, you'll be on a plane and heading home within a matter of days.
Most people who are put in Immigration detention are there so they can sell their assets, resolve contracts and leases and generally tidy up their affairs before they go. Or, because they claim asylum and then that long and arduous investigation has to be completed (which can literally take months or years). At ANY time they can change their mind and go home, because immigration detention is NOT PRISON. But, they don't.
I've had a bit to do with Immigration Detention.
