Last summer, Drudge Report changed to a new advertising company. The new company was unknown in the business. The new company (Granite Cubed) is owned by Margaret and Adrian Otto. Adrian Otto is a technical director at Google Cloud. Two years ago, the Ottos acquired RefDesk, a website created by Matt Drudge's father.
Since the Drudge Report's ownership is private, there's no way to know if it actually changed hands. But several people noted yesterday that the Drudge Report Twitter account changed it's description to the past tense.
I remember DR bring pretty favorable to Trump in the run-up to the election, much moreso than MSM. The occasional critical story doesn't mean the whole site is anti-trump. Now, since then, DT has become just another trash clickbait site and I have removed it from my bookmarks.
Seemingly overnight the snarky headlines dissipated, right wing news sources stopped being linked, the occasional article on christian prophesy happening in Israel, became a daily article on sex robots and demonic possession.
I really don't know why it took so long for the rest of the world to notice. Matt Drudge either fell into a pit of drug abuse and depression, or he just fell into a pit and never came back out.
Not too long before he died with a pillow covering his face, Justice Antonin Scalia told Drudge (who directly repeated it in a rare interview) that he would basically be shut down within three years. I can’t remember exactly where (maybe Infowars.com/billclintonisarapist), but the timeline appears to coincide.
Basically, I think the changes are because Drudge didn’t want to die.
