I finished Wiseguy the other day. The mafia was brutal, but they were also smarter. The only thing that truly brought them down was their friends snitching on them. If Jimmy Burke had Henry Hill killed the day he got out of jail, the Luchesse crime family would still be around and be more powerful than before. But he didn't, and Henry helped the cops take them down.
It's a good book. Give it a read. If you haven't, it's Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi.
