We actually need a moratorium on ALL immigration, legal or otherwise. However, this is not achievable today. Tomorrow, who knows. Merit-based would be a good first step.
It's sad because I was brought up to think of us all as simply "Americans". Come to find out that this way of thinking will lead to the end of America as we know it. We have to be a bit more discerning than this. Voting trends and demographics matter almost more than anything else we discuss here, and yet we're often not even able to discuss these issues openly, for fear of being labeled a "racist" even on the right. Saving the country comes down to packaging and popularizing this argument for mass appeal. Nothing else really matters if we don't win the immigration war.
