I am a proud American who came across a tweet that suggested you may be under the impression America has forgotten you. While I do not personally know you, I find it admirable you dedicated your life to upholding the liberties offered to me without having personally served, yet coming from a family of patriots who did.
I want to convey my appreciation to you for everything you have done, your service to our country, and to let you know you are not forgotten, but rather relished. My father was Army (Medic) because he is colorblind and couldn't serve in the Navy; my grandfather was Navy. I am saddened to hear of your current health, yet want to wish you a Merry Christmas and to let you know you are being prayed for and thought of during your time of need. It is individuals like yourself that protect the freedom so many take for granted.
I have an idea how we can prevent this from happening in the future. Time to write a report and send it to POTUS... but first I have to close the year ends... Accounting never sleeps this time of year. I only get to relax in the summer. Miss it so!
What cruel joke has this reality become where a brave and honorable man is alone and dying near Christmas but our institutions that claim to be "just" just siphon money to their friends and families under the table and laugh at us along the way. How can we idly ignore the corruption and pretend like "we are going to get them" when Sgt Corley is alone.... in other words..... how have we missed the mark by so much?
Tbh, that is what give me comfort. It is sad that he has no living relatives, but his dog is his family, and his dog’s love is pure. You say “a soldier deserves better”, but dogs are the best.
No, I’m hoping you’re right. If you’re in hospice care, you don’t have much time left, and your quality of life suffers. Hospice care staff will give you the attention you need, but a dog... a dog won’t understand when you won’t let him out...or you miss feeding him because you’re vomiting from the cancer meds, or you’re so delirious from the pain meds that you fill his bowl with cereal (or worse) because you can barely comprehend how to walk, much less know what you’re pouring into a dog’s bowl. And then when you pass — what happens to the dog? No friends or family? What awaits the dog is a living hell... if they live.
It’s a wonderful thing for somebody to bring an emotional support dog to the bedside of somebody in hospice, it is another thing entirely when it becomes your job, as a volunteer, to find a place for an unwanted dog (and, sadly, most dogs that are with hospice patients are quite old themselves).
Sorry, I’m a hospice volunteer for vets...this one hits a little too close to home. These things are very traumatizing to a dog — to lose the master/guardian they love, but what follows, when there is no-one left to love the dog... it breaks my heart. Rehoming a loved pet is one of the first things an unaccompanied vet in hospice is encouraged to do.
Well that felt good. Thanks everyone for sending messages his way, I'm sure it means a lot to him. Thanks you patriot, we'll hold it down for you here, until we meet again. God bless.
Czech pede here, doing my part. I will never forget the men that fought for the freedom around the world since 1776. American soldiers are God's avengers here on Earth. Much love to all those that fought and died on our behalf, you have my deepest gratitude.
Thanks so much for posting this. I sent an ecard using https://www.123greetings.com/send/ (a free service). I hope many more Pedes send him Christmas cheer.
I don't really know what to say my friend, I don't know you and you don't know me. I served in the Air Force in a linguist job working a desk at all hours of the day and night, providing support for our troops in the Kosovo War and beyond from 1997-2003.
I've never seen or had to deal with the experiences I'm sure you have had as an Army Ranger, but I want to thank you for all you have done for our country. There are hundreds of millions of us, and the majority of us are quiet to the media, keep to ourselves, and just go on living our lives as best as we can, fearing God and trying to be good and love our friends and neighbors.
Thank you for your service! I am sorry you are going through this time, and I hope you find peace in all the e-mails I hope you are receiving from normal people just like me who just want to say thank you to a fellow soldier on his way Home.
God Bless you, and I know that no matter what, He loves you. We the people of America love you.
I hope this is real, but anyway I sent a message to him. He is not forgotten, we might want to keep track of him, since he is in hospice his time on earth is not long, we should announce his funeral so many people can show up and pay their respects.
For those of you that are veterans: I am a volunteer as part of a vet-to-vet program to assist veterans in hospice care. Hospice care is terrible when you have no family/friends, but let me tell you, it HARD on family members. If you’re a veteran, PLEASE volunteer. Go to https://www.wehonorveterans.org/ and begin your journey. I will tell you, it’s no picnic — you have to work with individual hospice organizations, each will require background checks, you have to get TB test and special care training (you do NOT perform medical duties of any type, but you do get training in bereavement, general caregiver support, etc), but in the end it is WORTH IT. It’s easy to drive to a funeral for an unaccompanied veteran and pay respects — but you will truly find your full measure when you stand by a veteran’s side on their last march.
Let their stories be heard, so that none of us will forget.
Not willing to take the chance it’s a troll when it’s just so easy to send a message. “Funny Democrats” raised a flag for me, but whatever, I’d rather be trolled than wrong.
I just sent him an email. Just a bit about how much I am forever indebted to his service and a bit about myself to possibly get his mind away from whatever is killing him. I let him know that most Americans are appreciative of his tour of duty.
Done and done. Feels good, too.
My correspondence, hope it conveys the sentiment.
Sergeant Calvin Corley,

Reminds me of the letter from Abraham Lincoln in the movie Saving Private Ryan.
Well done, truly.

... that and they abhor the idea of their children serving in the military. Sickens me.
Can we mail him Christmas Cards?
A stripper dressed as a Nurse. A nice clean one with 40's pin up vibes.
Seeing this old dude sit there with his doggo kills me. A soldier deserves better.

I hate to break it to you, I don't think the dog is his. I hope I am wrong.

Thanks for the insight and your service to society. It is truly appreciated and respected.
People like you are whom I hope I encounter when my end is near.
Enjoy the weekend and Merry Christmas!
Funny democrats?? What is that?

Done! ??
Well that felt good. Thanks everyone for sending messages his way, I'm sure it means a lot to him. Thanks you patriot, we'll hold it down for you here, until we meet again. God bless.
I fired one off too
I offered to send him a book written by a former LRRP Ranger in Vietnam if he feels like reading.
Often times people in hospice enjoy talking about the past or reading about events that had a happened. It helps stimulate the mind.
Obviously I don't know his condition, but i thought it would make a nice gift.
Sent. Love his dog! That man is no way alone now that we know about him. Mentioned the link so hopefully he visits here. Thank you OP for telling us!

(just hit send, here's what I sent this patriot)
Sir,
I don't really know what to say my friend, I don't know you and you don't know me. I served in the Air Force in a linguist job working a desk at all hours of the day and night, providing support for our troops in the Kosovo War and beyond from 1997-2003.

God Bless you, and I know that no matter what, He loves you. We the people of America love you.
Warmest Regards and God Speed, soldier!
Are there any plans on who will take care of his dog?
Sent and praying he knows the true impact of his sacrifice and service.
I hope this is real, but anyway I sent a message to him. He is not forgotten, we might want to keep track of him, since he is in hospice his time on earth is not long, we should announce his funeral so many people can show up and pay their respects.

Email sent! Thanks for posting this.
Gotta repost this tomorrow afternoon as well! Emailing now.
Where is his physical location? Maybe a nice group visit with good willing people is in order.
God bless him.

Is there any way I can send him a Christmas card??
Hasn't this been floated around before?
