If the house votes to impeach and Senate Republicans get to hold a trial, that SHOULD be great for us - we should be able to hear from the Biden’s, the Obama administration officials involved, the “whistleblower”, and the DNC corruption will be on full display.

However, if Lindsey Graham just shuts the hearing down without calling witnesses or drawing out the process, all progress being made through this process stops and I think we lose a little ground as independents don’t like to see hearing being shut down on what can be perceived as a partisan bias (see: dems impeachment failure).

We really have to keep the pressure on Lindsey. He needs to know that if he neglects to do his duty, we will notice.

I'm not sure if Lindsey has that much power.

Mitch McConnell seems to be in control and he claims everything will be done in accordance with the directions of President Trump's attorneys.

I like the idea of POTUS string this out - milking it for all it's got while forcing the Dems to participate in hearings rather than campaigning for the 2020 election.

CQVFEFE 24 points ago +26 / -2

I'm torn. Part of me likes the idea of sparing our country any more of this nonsense hoax, ridiculing the impeachment as the political sham it obviously is, dismissing the case over the horrific abuse of the process and trampling of any concept of fairness by the dems. Clinton didn't get this treatment when he actually committed felonies. That makes this bullshit.

The other part of me likes the idea of making it take as long as possible, "right up to the election" in Trump's words, to drag the dems through the mud of their own misdeeds, while keeping them off the campaign trail.

jc99ta 16 points ago +16 / -0

Drag them through the mud. 100%. They need to be exposed publicly... If the media will actually cover it that is.

I say the Republicans should do what the Dems did. Allow the minority party no witnesses. Cut them off when they speak, revoke their time to speak. Hold some meetings in private. Do everything the Dems did in the House. And call tons of witnesses. Call Pedo Joe and Crack Head Hunter. Call Pelosi's kid. Let's hear from Shit for Brains under oath. Then charge every one when they lie under oath. No remorse, no mercy.

Mitch 2015? Hell no.

Mitch 2019? Maybe. It seems like sometime after Trump won he actually grew a spine, I figure he doesn't want impeachment shining a light on his own dirty dealings and will probably work to kill it as fast as he can.

14
magaspif 14 points ago +14 / -0

Mitch is addicted to his control over the long-term appointments that Trump has enabled. We should never trust these people, but for now the results are acceptable.

1
Magafactured 1 point ago +1 / -0

FWIW Mitch stated unequivocally on Hannity that he would proceed as directed by the president’s legal team. If they want it to go long, he’ll draw it out, if quick, he’ll do it quick.

He could be lying, but he did declare it quite clearly.

I trust Trump, that's all I know. I'll be watching Trump's reaction to judge the Senate's integrity.

DAR1783 8 points ago +8 / -0

Naturally, I worry about congress messing everything up since that's kind of their thing. BUT after everything Trump (and the country) has been dragged through, at last he can have some control instead of being silenced. I have the utmost trust & faith that he will make it through in his usual winning way.

7
Hayride 7 points ago +7 / -0

During the interview after the Dems green-lighted the 2 Articles of Impeachment, Trump said something to the effect of there being a long and short route blah, blah, blah and then he said, "Look, I'll do what I want." It's going to go down how Trump wants it to go down.

jasper_db1 14 points ago +14 / -0

Lindsay has the opportunity to put open the windows and let the sun shine onto all the swap rats hiding in the corners of our government. It would be a mistake to kill it quick and quietly.

2
Belleoffreedom 2 points ago +3 / -1

How is continuing to focus on DJT's actions, instead of the origin of the Mueller hoax, Joe Biden's (and others' ) corruption in Ukraine, and the audit of the rest of the foreign aid, going to throe sun shine where we want it?

3
Magafactured 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think because they’re related - DJT is further justified in requesting Ukraine investigate corruption when that corruption is proven to exist.

and if that proof so happens to decimate some particular party, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2
mightiest_m 2 points ago +2 / -0

I guess if part of the impeachment is "abuse of power", proving that Trumps comments were in national interest would require all of Bidens actions to come to light.

9
gladuasked 9 points ago +9 / -0

It's not totally in Graham's hands. McConnell more or less will determine what direction the Senate action on an impeachment referral will take.

9
draintheswamp 9 points ago +9 / -0

Lindsey Graham was great on Kavanaugh BECAUSE HE WAS A BUSH GUY.

Graham is still the same dumbass he always was.

Kavanaugh is at least doing well.

Graham 2.0 is a myth/hoax/fantasy.

7
Warskull 7 points ago +7 / -0

I don't believe Lindsey Graham is trying to sabotage Trump.

There are two schools of thought.

The first is use the trial to go on the offensive. Bring up stuff like Biden, discredit the witnesses, and prove there is nothing.

The second is that it is best handled by closing impeachment quickly and decisively. That it doesn't matter if they prove Biden is the reincarnation of Hitler, the media will ignore it all and print fake news like they always do. So they think it helps Trump more to sweep impeachment away.

I think he's wrong, that if you try to push it away without a trial the democrats will claim corruption and scream non-stop.

3
TheRobBelmonte 3 points ago +3 / -0

> democrats will claim corruption and scream non-stop

On the other hand, what else is new?

1
Southern_Belle 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think you may be right.

Gowdy said the other day that the wise approach would be to shut it down quickly in the senate.

I think his reasoning is that the shorter the process, the lower the chances that someone might screw it up.

Lordy 6 points ago +6 / -0

I posted about this the other day. There are senators like Graham and Cruz saying impeachment is dead on arrival and there will be no long drawn out trial. This is the wrong approach and will give the dems exactly what they want.

Rodger 6 points ago +6 / -0

Lindsey will do what he can to make LINDSEY look good. Even though Lindsey could not even win his home state of South Carolina, Lindsey still believes that he knows better than Anybody else. It does appear to me that Lindsey has done a better job since his Mentor & Guy Friend (John McCain) is No longer around.

6
Logan051361 6 points ago +6 / -0

he already said he is not calling the Whistle Blower or Bidens or anyone. He is only going to talk about this sham and thats it

6
Deplorable_Badger 6 points ago +6 / -0

Lindsay is on a short leash. Remember the McCain funeral when the military generals were watching him? He is fulfilling his role to avoid the same fate. After all this comes to a head, I expect Lindsay to not run for office again.

4
Paco 4 points ago +4 / -0

The problem is that the corruption is on both sides of the isle. The Turtle and Linda don't want a trial because they don't want to be implicated in anything that comes out. Trump knows this and he knows he has no friends there. I've had no faith in the Republicans since Obama's second term and they've done nothing in the last 3 years to change my opinion of them. DC is corrupt to the core and they're all in on it.

I've got money on Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell fucking it up.

3
johnrambo 3 points ago +3 / -0

I can't see how the democraps are going to let it get into the Senate. Seems they'd know that republican control there will oust every claim they've made and just make them look retarded. I think they're going to find an out so the kangaroo court will be the final court and it won't get there. Either that or they have made arrangements in the senate already.

3
Marshall 3 points ago +3 / -0

I'm still not sure about the power sharing arrangement between Roberts and the Senate Leadership in a trial. Who sets the rules? Are Criminal procedures expected to be followed? Is Graham even involved since the Whole Senate is required to take up the matter before any further business is conducted?

3
DeeDay 3 points ago +3 / -0

I don't know, Lindsey could fuck up a wet dream.

3
AtariArtist 3 points ago +3 / -0

Nah. Signal the irrelevance and sham nature of it by shutting it down ASAP. Going longer just gives the media fuel and it some kind of legitimacy.

Save the witnesses for Adam Schitts and Joe Biden's indictments.

3
magachudd 3 points ago +3 / -0

Lindsey was implicated in Guilani's investigation he did with OAN.

This explains why Lindsey hasn't followed through on many of his threats against some Dems.

Lindsey is swamp and the fact he is the lead in the Judicial Committee in the Senate tells me he is going to shut it down quickly. He would essentially be shining light on his own corruption and he doesnt want that.

I want this trial to go on and witnesses to be called. Not sure how this can happen with Lindsey there.

2
TheRobBelmonte 2 points ago +2 / -0

My guess is, almost everyone in the senate has dirt on them that they don't want the trial exposing. They won't take it to trial, they'll shut it down ASAP.

3
CyclopticErotica 3 points ago +3 / -0

The Senate is the super swamp. There are only 100, and the have long terms that help them get reelected for life.

The House has some good people and they won't be there long, the Senate is 100% dirty.

2
Serah123 2 points ago +2 / -0

As has been said, this is Mitch McConnell's show, and he in no way wants any of the real players (Whistleblower, Hunter/Joe Biden, etc.) to testify, as that would pull the wool from people's eyes, giving them an unvarnished view of the influence peddling schemes that D.C politicians have constructed and are engaged in on a regular basis, whereby they leverage their positions of power to increase their personal net worth.

That is why McConnell said that "USMCA will only get voted on once impeachment trial is over, and not before". A veiled threat, essentially, that "the more witnesses you call, the longer until your precious deal is approved".

2
Landslide_2020 2 points ago +2 / -0

We already know that President Trump is not going to be removed from office in the Senate. What matters now, is, just how far do the Rebublicans want to take the investigation into the Shampeachment. Do they want to truly expose the Demoncrats for who they truly are? Or to just let the swamp continue to on its merry way?

If the President has his way, we may just find out the truth about the Swampocrats.

I respectfully disagree. We don't have to choose between acquitting Trump quickly and prosecuting graft related to foreign aid kickback to corrupt politicians. We should do both. We should clear Trump ASAP to allow him to focus on more important matters. Ukraine isn't the only country with extreme foreign aid related corruption. We need to out all of the politicians who do this shit around the globe. Both objectives will be achieved more effectively by decoupling the efforts.

2
Ozylanthe 2 points ago +2 / -0

I for one am in favor of a lengthy trial. Make it serious, show the evidence, and when the smoking gun never materializes, the dems not only look like idiots but will likely have many of their high ranking members indicted for conspiracy, corruption, and potentially treason in some cases.

2
MaxLevel0 2 points ago +2 / -0

No.

Don't make the impeachment sham relevant.

Don't give it the time of day.

The longer the impeachment is, the more soundbites the rest of the media has to take out of context and pretend it's good for them.

Up or down vote on day one, two-minute speech declaring the whole thing over.

THEN open an investigation on everything else. Then you don't give the media the sound bites they want.

1
Southern_Belle 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes!

That makes sense...and I think that's what Gowdy may have been getting at.

Shut the thing down quickly.

Then move on to the next thing.

In my opinion, the next thing should be an investigation, as you said.

deleted 2 points ago +2 / -0

mightiest_m 2 points ago +2 / -0

They can get all the witnesses they want, but the Bidens and Dems will just lie out of their ass the whole time, under oath.

The etirety of the media will also be on their side, tearing evidence down as a "debunked conspiracy theory" 24/7 no matter how clear the narrative becomes. Let's be honest, you have to be pretty brain-dead already to think there's not something at least a tiny bit dodgy about the Bidens actions.

I don't think it will do Trump good during this investigation. I'm in agreement with others that they should just wrap up this sham impeachment as a joke ASAP, then they can get into a separate investigation of Quid-Pro-Jo once they're done.

2
Cianevalies 2 points ago +2 / -0

Lindsey Graham saw the execution of McCain as a clear warning. He will toe the line.

1
DisgustedByMisleadia 1 point ago +1 / -0

By himself, Graham doesn't have that much power.

Combined with Romney, Murkowski, and possibly Collins, he might be able to influence the process.

1
sustainable_saltmine 1 point ago +1 / -0

Honestly, I just want all the peach mints bullshit to be over, let the Dems think they won a "moral victory" in the House and have it smashed in the Senate. Be real, you know even if Biden, O's admin and whoever else are called to testify they'll either weasel out, get softballs or somehow squeak through unscathed. It'd be fucking awesome if they did finally get nailed to the floor, but I would rather if at least, we put the peach mints theater to rest, laugh in the face of the left that they can't remove him, and look ahead to 2020.

1

Bullshit trump Was charged and framed for the the dems did

Mueller clearered him And We can all read the transcript for a selves in the clearly see that Trump is completely innocent of any all fake whistleblower charges we need to go on the offense of immediately and start making a rest and start prosecuting these Democrats for what they tried to do
