Yep. I moved into a small town with a struggling plastics plant that employed a few people. (It's midway between my wife's and my office.) The plant closed under Obummer practically killing the town. A skeleton crew stayed on (without pay) to keep everything in working order. Now a Taiwan-based company bought the plant, and they're preparing to build a bottle factory next door. Practically overnight my property value doubled!

I'm not doing badly but I haven't been as fortunate as some here it seems. Taxes last year destroyed me. First time in 40 years I actually owed money and I made no changes on my tax forms and only had a modest raise in salary. I was told I owed 1600$, ended up going directly to a CPA and paying them 500$ to get the whole thing reduced to just a few hundred.

My 401k is fine, wouldn't say soaring but its not doing badly. My house hasn't doubled in price but its up about 50% and climbing. I did however take a vacation last year, first one in about 13 years. It was a modest one since I'm not used to traveling these days. This year hoping for a better one but we'll see what taxes do to me.

Was it because of Obamacare you ended paying more taxes?

2
OhLollyLollyPop 2 points ago +2 / -0

In my case, the tax software didn't let me take off my mortgage interest or small amount of natural gas well royalties. It cost me an extra $1000 that I didn't get back compared to the year before. This year we are doing the taxes without that software. It wasn't obamacare, because I have social security plus another Advantage Plan.

datawarrior 2 points ago +2 / -0

No its because of the way taxes are withheld now. We weren't informed very well about the deductions so we didn't plan ahead of time (we're not accountants) so I stuck with the previous years deductions which often gave me between 6-9k back each year in returns. Then last year I owed taxes out of the blue.

I don't blame Trump I blame the tax code and the fact no human being can understand it. It's basically the epitome of corruption and theft.

1
ippwndu 1 point ago +2 / -1

Why on earth would you let the feds hold 6-9k of your money?

1
RummyVonDumDum 1 point ago +1 / -0

THIS. Don't give the federal government interest free loans. Ideally you owe nothing and are owed nothing at tax time. Invest that 6-9k over the course of the year, let the money work for you.

I am honestly at a loss. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with all this money. My retirement is taken care of, I have a great job, I have 5 teenage kids.

This is something that my parents never prepared me for. They certainly never taught me how to be rich in the public schools.

I'm at that threshold where I feel like I should be hiring people rather than being an employee. It's weird. So there's three guys downstairs remodeling my kitchen right now...

I'll take "getting crushed" over whatever dystopian nightmare Joe Biden has in mind.

The only thing on Quid Pro Joe's mind is Ukraine. And his hairy legs.

OhLollyLollyPop 3 points ago +3 / -0

He said he wants to put hundreds of thousands out of work with his green policies. This scam is barely in the top 10 of the public's concerns.

With any Dim, the issue is how bad things will get with them in office. Never vote for a Dim.

AenAllAin 11 points ago +11 / -0

maybe he meant "crushing it"... idk, its hard to make sense of him.

Normally, a problem isn't supposed to be solved. And these Swamp Rats would preach "Vote for me, I'll save you!" But Trump already is saving people....And the NPCs can't change their coding so it comes out so weird!

It's almost like it's a talking point and not based on reality.

Pick any topic and it will reasonate with somebody. The rational will look past the end of their own nose and vote for what is best.

My retirement accounts are mostly in index funds and are up over 27% year to date.

Wage earnings are up significantly over inflation this year.

Taxes for the overwhelming majority of middle class taxpayers are much less than they would have been prior to Trump’s tax cuts.

Incredibly low unemployment means switching jobs is easier than ever.

It’s a great time to be an American. Trump has delivered for middle class America in ways Dems never could with their policies.

The middle class IS getting crushed. Under a pile of money!!

Biden is right, we are getting crushed...by taxes. ~80% of the fed budget is social programs. We're not talking infrastructure, defense, education, etc. We're talking straight up welfare stuff. ~80% of your fed income taxes are going to people who didn't earn what you're giving them and for what? Votes? It's a similar story for most state income taxes.

Gmama2 5 points ago +5 / -0

Obamacare is crushing the middle class.

A couple making $54K (about $13/hr) combined pays about $1300 for a bronze plan with $6800 deductibles EACH, no free doc visits, etc.. They are paying about 1/3 of take-home pay on premiums, and another quarter if they both get sick.

4
datawarrior 4 points ago +4 / -0

40% of my salary goes to state/federal taxes. What I am left with goes to my house payments, car, child care. All of those I pay additional taxes on. Then I go to the grocery store to buy food, another 8% in taxes. Gas, more taxes. I think I'm well north of 55% of my money goes to the government. If I worked for 100 years, 55 of them would be Uncle Sam's. I don't understand how or why more people aren't pissed off about this.

2
Gypsy6 2 points ago +2 / -0

Switch states. Gas and store visits are state taxes.

trump4eva 1 point ago +1 / -0

What percent of that is Obamacare?

Quid pro Joe doesn't even believe that shit. Who the fuck is getting crushed? While some are paying more in taxes, me included, the overall numbers President Trump and his administration has produced, cannot be denied. How exactly does he think that his message is going to play out?

You're getting crushed? You should be making double that? "I'm going to solve that by opening the borders wide open and raise your taxes!!"

Shorter. Biden is a piece of shit.

Don't forget the part where he says his green deal will put hundreds of thousands out of work, but trust him, they will find new green jobs. Right... trust that guy!

So true! My 401k growth has been incredible

4
BeauBidenBrainTumor 4 points ago +5 / -1

I doubt Biden has personally known a single middle class person since 1971. Trump's slaying of neoliberal trade policies and bolstering of the manufacturing sector has unleashed tremendous growth. This is the kind og growth that directly helps the middle class, as opposed to the neoliberal economic growth from shuffling money around (i.e. hedge funds) without generating a physical product that only helps the very wealthy.

Didn't he respond dismissively "com'on man" to a reporter asking him about China trade practice. Guess how the middle class is being crushed? The dems and the rinos both support job outsourcing.

So it's a joke that he dares to lecture, a corrupt senile senior who should be resting in a nursing home.

They live in their own little world, don't they?

Historic stock market highs. Historic unemployment lows. Housing rolling along at a steady sustainable 3.8% growth per year across the country. Interest rates at historic lows. Like what the fuckity fuck are they talking about?

34.71% rate of return since 2016. Not bad!

I got slammed on taxes last year. It was my fault for not adjusting my witholdings. My employer paid for my relo which pushed me into the next higher tax bracket. What really opened my eyes is the amount of federal taxes I paid in 2018, $35,000 fucking dollars. Then I watch these clowns in DC and their lavish spending and funding which just brings my blood to a boil.

I'll have a number 2 with extra pickles and an egg nog shake please.

2
Thep1mp 2 points ago +2 / -0

Well.... the middle class has gotten crushed over the last 20 years. Wages have not kept up with inflation while energy, food, water and education costs have skyrocketed. Am I better off now than 20 or 25 years ago? No. Is my 401k doing well? Yes it is. But.... Biden should shut his mouth. While things went south under Bush , things went really bad under Obama/Biden. What did he do when he was Vice President to help? Not a damned thing, they made it worse. At least Trump cut our taxes and got the economy roaring.

I love how they tell us how shitty we have it. Our 401k's are singing a very different tune, however.

I set up college funds for both my kids in early 2014 with a relatively modest, but not insumbstantial inheritance. They're up 50% as of last week with no additional contributions. My personal retirement investments are through the roof.
