I realized this because I was trying to imagine a more likable actor to play the Irishman. Kurt Russell? James Woods? Bruce Willis? But those actors almost always play good guys. I'm guessing that actors tend to take roles they can identify with.

So in his mind, a President who wants to enforce our immigration laws is a heartless beast who hates all immigrants. I can't watch any movies anymore. All of them have actors like this in them, and it spoils the whole thing. Lucky for me, I have hundreds of old movies on DVD.
Joker is not about De Niro's character at all. He has a few scenes but he's only in a supporting role. We all hate his politics but De Niro is a "good enough" actor that you don't feel like you're watching the clown he has become in real life, if anything this version is a De Niro that you can actually stomach. There is also no boycott of De Niro that is going to make any difference because of his boomer fame. If you go on his IMDB page he hasn't been "known for" anything since 1991 and really hasn't been huge since 1980's Raging Bull. Don't let some has been prevent you from seeing a great movie that supports plenty of better actors in a much bigger way.

I know its stupid. I love the Godfather movies. I can't bring myself to see them I watched The Irishman and his being in it soured it. Subconsciously i was picking on his acting flaws throughout. Spoiled what was probably a decent enough movie.
