Bartiromo mentioned Van Drew previously quoting Reagan, saying that he didn't leave the Democratic Party, that the Democratic Party left him. And that is something the Congressman believes has to do with American exceptionalism.
"So, you know, I speak about America exceptionalism a lot. For those that are not really familiar with it, it means that America is a truly unique nation, that it is the greatest nation in the world, that we have so much potential, and we are the leaders of the free world, and that we are leaders in general," he explained. "And I have Democrats come to me that say, 'That’s wrong. We’re the same as any other country in the world.' They’re wrong. That’s not true."
"But another definition of American exceptional, which is one that I prefer just as much, is this: The history of the world is bondage. The history of the world for human beings is oppression.
The vast majority of human beings who have lived have lived in one form of tyranny or another. They have lived in bondage. They have lived in oppression. They have lived in slavery. They have lived in poverty. They have lived lives of abject misery. That’s been the story for most people, and the quest, the human quest has been to escape that and to improve. America comes along for the first time in human history and provides the exception to that rule. The American Founding Fathers establish a nation on the basis of individual liberty and freedom. It had never before happened. Never."
I am a bit worried about him being another RINO, but he really didn't do himself any favors by becoming a rupublican. The democrats will try to destroy him and republican voters will probably not trust him. He may have just committed political suicide.
When someone does something that appears to fly in the face of self advancement, people tend to trust them more and view them as, at least, being honest. Otherwise, why on Earth would they do it? Trump 2016 comes to mind here. He was so bold during those primary debates. I mean, I'm not sure anyone had seen someone just go out there like that and stick their neck that far out by mentioning immigration, by calling out the donors in the that one audience that booed him, by bluntly (some would say roughly and rudely) calling out the weakness and hypocrisy of opponents. For a nation almost despairing of anything ever changing, it was a lifeline! We grabbed ahold and pulled that fucker with all our might! As if the fate of the free world depended on it.
E: another similarity is that both the 2016 Republican party and current day New Jersey can be viewed as entities that have suffered for a long stretch and willing to try something different, even risky.
Trump pretty much endorsed him when they met in the white house. That's kind of a instant save. Plus him doing this over an impeachment on trump, will help with the trump supporters.
This is a great article. It really highlights how those on the left try to strong-arm others into following the groupthink and how they are intolerant of anyone who doesn't conform.
I now have a lot of respect for Van Drew for thinking for himself and making the honorable decision.
Of course they have. This article does a great job of highlighting it. Usually people don't come right out and talk about their strong-arm tactics, let alone put their career on the line by standing against it, like Van Drew just did.
I am surprised that we're about 20 years since the free trade globalist Clinton administration ended and there's still white male democrats out there clinging to the idea that the democrats represent blue collar and middle-class workers. Good for Van Drew for seeing the light, but I am still puzzled as to why it took so long for him.
My understanding is that this guy was concerned he'd lose a primary challenge. This could just be a move to tap into the Republican and moderate votes while avoiding a primary challenge.
Some may question his survival motives...but sounds and acts like a true Patroit.
I prefer Rush Limbaugh's definition:

Yeah, Paul Ryan sounded good in 2008.
That part about Democrats coming up to him saying that the USA is like any other country explains a lot.

He probably saw some of our dope memes and got red pilled. Congressmen surf the web while they shit too.

The Left has always used those tactics.
The article really provided no inside baseball on the Dems.

The strong arm tactics have been well know for decades.
Guess you never saw this. https://qanon.pub/data/media/6d7ed0e495dec06faafe9fe873768becf7450a4b75846d6b9062f9a13ad4959c.jpg

Thank you for the link...seems like a legitimate guy.
I read the entire article and I didn't see some inside party scoop.
Maybe I'm missing something.

He's voted against a lot of trump stuff. I'm not trusting any time soon
