The goal in any hard-line socialist (communist) regime is to drive the middle and upper middle classes into a state of abject government-dependency along with the rest of the poors. The middle class is an obstacle to totalitarianism because it tends to be self-sufficient and independent.
Marx's prediction that the rich would get richer and the poor poorer was correct, just ass-backwards. Turn it around and apply it to communism and it's accurate. The rich elite will include cronyist state-assisted corporate heads, the "nomenklatura" or top echelons of the bureaucracy, and the inner circle of politicians and generals around the dictator. Without the taxable middle class, welfare programs will have little or no money. Food, healthcare, all the necessities of life will deteriorate or grow scarcer and scarcer, and the bulk of the population will cluster just above, or at, or below the poverty line--by design. Queues around the block for basic staples, dumpster-diving, or outright starvation. USSR, China, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea...
In this country, no revolution, just sneaky step by step Left-wing "progress," i.e., takeover of all important political and cultural institutions. Obamacare is one step. Gutting 2A is another, MSM-Educational System censorship and propaganda (gut 1A), another, Deep-State-Silicon Valley mass data-mining and surveillance another (gut 4A). Judicial criminality directed against opposition/dissenters/, unconstitutional impeachment even of the President (gut 5A). These steps have already been taken or are being taken.
