Because a convention of the states has a high probability of destroying the Constitution. There would be no limit to the number of asinine amendments the lunatics (on both sides) would propose, and some would probably pass (in the spirit of "bipartisanship")
You do realize any proposed amendments would still need to be ratified by 2/3 of the States right? Very little chance of runaway "asinine amendments". Convention of States is our best hope to take back control of the government. Otherwise we're just trying to beat them at a game where they write the rules.
