Yeah, I've said it's a circle. Go far enough left or right, and you'll meet . . . usually in Gulags and death camps. Gulags are entered from the left, and death camps from the right, and you will NOT console yourself with, "Well, at least I'm not in a Nazi concentration camp!" or "At least I'm not in a Soviet gulag!"
That being said, I'm not sure I'm right. After all, "National Socialist Party" -- "Socialism" is in the name! Nazis are actually Leftists; it's a testament to the success of a Henry Ford/Carnegie/Rockefeller propaganda campaign that we think otherwise.
Best definition I ever heard was: With Communism, the government owns the corporations; with Fascism (which the Nazis supposedly were) the corporations own the government (so the US government is fascist, I would assume?)
An aside: anyone ever notice how much science fiction has corporations running entire galaxy quadrants? The corporations ARE the governments -- they even fight wars; "Dark Matter" and "Killjoys" are the most recent shows that leap to mind. Predictive programming?
I think what's on the far Left is totalitarianism, and on the far right is anarchy, that is, total tyranny vs no government. But, as nature abhors a vacuum, you WILL have government, you WILL be ruled over, whether it be a NWO Communist tyranny or the local drug/war lord. We're humans. There's no escape from government, aka "death and taxes".
The brilliance of our founders was the idea that the citizens control themselves -- which idea, coupled with a moral and virtuous populace, is what our Constitution depends on for it's successful implementation. That, or be controlled. There's no in between. And as our current situation is proving, our founders were completely correct.
That's not an accurate definition of fascism. It's privately-owned companies that are heavily regulated and are told how much to produce, how much to sell it for, etc. It's a centrally planned economy, i.e. socialism.
Under fascism, government owns the corporations. Under communism, there are no corporations. What the US has concerning corporate lobbying is troubling, but it's not fascism.
Horseshoe theory all day. Left and right extremes are nearly the same.
