My original post is here: https://thedonald.win/p/3s4Koqr/venting-about-adult-daughter-wit/

First I want to thank each and every one of you that replied and offered helpful advice. It was very helpful and I'm thankful to you all.

Based on the advice given by datawarrior I decided to try to get involved in her hobby. It's not something I can realistically do but I am showing a greater amount of interest in it asking questions and such even though it's not something I really get in to. It's her thing right now so I'm using it as a bridge to be able to talk to her about stuff other than politics. IT HELPED! Just by me asking a few questions she is suddenly talking to me more, contacting me. She came to Christmas and even brought gifts for her family. She was on the phone with me the night before asking what to get for some people. I spent Christmas day with her and we did not discuss politics at all and she didn't bring it up.

I'm going to spend the weekend with her in a few weeks to help her pack her apartment as she is moving into a house. I'm looking forward to spending that time with her.

I'm also going to do something which I'm honestly vehemently against but I've decided my daughter is more important to me on this issue. I have a Trump bumper sticker. As I was leaving her apartment on Christmas day she walked me out and I saw her glance at the bumper sticker. I know she wanted to say something but she refrained. I've decided to remove the sticker just because I know it's a literal trigger for her. It's an olive branch from me to her.

All that being said, I'm voting for who I want to vote for. Her words when all this started were deciding what kind of relationship she wants to have with us depends on what happens with the election. I'm not going to tell her who I voted for and if she asks I'm going to tell her it is not something I wish to discuss. If she decides she wants to end our parent/daughter relationship at that point then it's truly on her. I've made concessions in order to keep the peace and my door will always be open to her but I won't chase her.

Thank you all and I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

I say fuck 'em if they don't like Trump, or don't like right-wing politics. I have alienated all of my TDS relatives and my life is better for it.

If it were anyone else in my family I would do the same. It's just that this is my daughter we are talking about here. I can't say fuck it and just pretend she doesn't exist anymore.

Extreme, perhaps, but not "stupid". Read what Communist minions have done to not only nations they've invaded, but to their own people! Deliberate famine/mass starvation is probably their favorite weapon: Stalin starved 20 million Ukrainians to death; Mao starved to death between 65 and 85 million Chinese in a country that, though it has always suffered periodic famines, had never suffered a nation-wide famine before Mao -- for the first time in Chinese history, there was no province for the starving Chinese to flee to! Pol Pot starved the Cambodians, and now we've got Maduro starving the Venezuelans.

Want to know what end stage starvation looks like? Know all those zombie movies and TV shows? That. The body begins consuming the brain, since it's made out of fat -- it's the last thing the body has to consume before death. (Is that by any chance "predictive programming"?)

Then, of course, there's the horrific tortures, organ harvesting, Gulags, "reeducation camps", being placed in so-called "mental institutions" for things like wrong-think, thought-crime, and believing in God (Jesus is especially anathema).

And there are serious rumors that the organ harvesting involves vivisection: a young Chinese intern found himself being asked to remove a strapped-down prisoner's eyes while he was awake and not under anesthesia. When he froze in horror, the disgusted chief surgeon grabbed the surgical tools out of the intern's hands and deftly removed the poor prisoner's eyes in seconds. He tells his horrific story in detail; he fled to Canada. He's not the only one to recount such horrors under Communism.

So, as you may now see, considering Communists to be inhuman is not only NOT stupid, it is completely understandable, perhaps even justifiable.

And never forget, the above activities are their plans for us. Fight them to an easier death than the one you'll suffer if you don't fight!

I'm with ya, it's your daughter. You live for your kids, people without kids don't understand that.

My random 2c here for what it's worth. If you cut people off you're depriving them the benefit of a different perspective and ensuring they stay in their bubble. Same for you too. I continue to maintain a dialog with people that have a different ideology for them and for me too and my ongoing opinions are influenced by their ideas, and I can tell the same is happening for them.

Imagine we only listened to MSNBC and Fox News and never listened to ideas from outside of those 2 silos. I'm convinced that as citizens we need to entertain even ideas that at first might sound crazy, to apply the sniff test to them, to do our best to research what we can wading through propaganda and then to come up with our best assessment of the truth based on that and evolving information since in many cases we can never be 100% certain of the truth (because the truth is clearly obfuscated by those with private political interests, the corrupt, conspiracies etc.).

We have a responsibility to keep our cool (when possible) and to present our reasoning to those around us, especially loved ones. For some it may be a lost cause to try to stay calm and establish that dialog, but I think for most it's possible especially because of your historical relationship. Another way to look at it is if we cannot leverage the trust we've built over a lifetime with people, god help us. These of all people know who we are. They know in their hearts we don't have corrupt motives so family and close friends are the best hope to break through their cognitive dissonance (and likewise ours).

I'm sorry about your situation and am hoping you can re-establish your relationships based on your shared blood and history and help respectfully bring a different perspective to all those around you.

Most conservatives just want happy, peaceful lives with their families and no government interference. We're forced into politics to protect the freedoms that Communists/Muslims/Democrats want to destroy.

Sacrificing family for politics is missing the forest for the trees.
