I always wanted to learn how to code, but I could never find the time for it since I have two aging parents to take care of. Now that they've gotten a little better, I find myself having some free time to waste on my days off. I want to learn some coding, but I don't know where to begin. Right now, going to a school is kind of out of the question since the car I own is a pos and I don't have the money to get a new one or pay on a loan with all the medicine I have to get for my parents. Are there any good sites to go to that arn't scams or basically shitty training courses like in high school?
Thanks if you can help, guys.
Don't do it it's an over crowded field and it's getting worse by the day with more and more people jumping into it. On top of it you have factors like foreign workers who force undue competition with lowering the pay and also everyone cranks out these bad sloppy pieces of software that don't benefit anyone's life and constantly wastes it.
My best advice is only learn if you have a really great idea to execute and do it. You learn by reading documentation and thinking like an engineer, read the manual and do what you can with your chosen toolbox. Learn and understand concepts like SOLID but don't get sucked into religions with all the different shit out there too.
Good advice...trust the Pistachio.
Hahahaha yeah I'm just trying to save this guy from going down a bad rabbit hole of torture and headaches. I've been in the field for over 15 years and would like to get the fuck out.
I treat it like I treat writing, a hobby. I love writing and hope to get a manuscript published soon.
Hobbies are fun to have when not working. I'll look at python. Thanks
You're much better off learning a musical instrument or something in reality, just trying to save your life and time. Unless you think you have some great ideas to execute it's kind of a waste.
However, going with something like python you'd probably not waste that much time so it's not that bad, you'll find out...
If you're really a beginner you can try another route and go with trying to drive Linux for everything you do, try something like archlinux or Gentoo or slack or redhat (not the common Ubuntu shit everyone loves to use) - you can make a burner VM and do your python stuff in that
music instrument to make money is a bad idea. If you're going to go the route of future proofing your job, learn plumbing or electrical. If you want to hate yourself, become an auto mechanic
carpentry is good to know (learn by helping habitat for humanity) but making a career of it is hard. better to have a specialty like tiling or masonry
