This is how you avoid a pointless war, especially with nutcases like the Islamists -- they hit you, and you hit back ten times as hard. Unfortunately, it may be the only strategy that works.

I think some REALLY big bombs, like I dunno a few MOABS. Might get the point across, especially if dropped on the Mullahs.

But then does it super escalate? I'd rather we glass the whole middle east. Then go take the oil in 50 years and call it a day

The Mullahs are on the ropes and they along w/ deepstate/CIA/Dems want to draw GEOTUS into a conflict...they have been trying for awhile now and haven't succeeded yet...hopefully the retaliation is toward oil infrastructure to further cripple the economy and have the people rise up over shitty econ conditions and drag the Mullahs through the streets

Remember the good ole days like 70 years ago when the CIA assassinated leftists and overthrew regimes we (or the United Fruit Company) didn't like. They even put the Shah of Iran back on the throne of Iran and Iranians be damned.

Now they've given up all that. Communists rule in Venezuela while the CIA is determined to topple our President Donald and restore drunken, coked and stupid Queen Hillary to her rightful throne.

K-Harbour 1 point ago +1 / -0

Now, they just try to do the same to our own leaders?

What’s funny about this statement is that Israel is planning to do just that. This is precisely why Trump is stepping in to help as opposed to playing hands off. After the election, if our guy stays in the White House, I expect either a heavy hand from Israel or a heavy hand from the US. He’s hoping to delay the inevitable for a bit longer. Iran and the deep state may force his hand.

Or perhaps doesn't want a repeat of President Carter or Obamas Benghazi.

7
ProudAmerican 7 points ago +9 / -2

Good point, there. He would never allow an Obama era Benghazi to happen under his watch. I still think this is part of a bigger issue that’s been fomenting for decades.

I've seen you shill for Israel in 4 different topics today. You have said ridiculous shit like Trump will lose the american economy if we don't protect Israel because then Israel will be forced to use extreme measures and that will affect American economy. No it won't and you're a moron if you think Israel or ANYTHING In the middle east is proping us up. etc etc. Israel is its own country and should fend for them fucking selves for all matters related to middle east sand wars. We have NO interests there and helping Israel stay safe forever is not an American interest. Just like we shouldn't protect the dipsshit governments of Europe who hate us. I'm sick of this crap if they want to fight dirt wars then let them. If they use extreme measures on each other I do not care. That is war, and the sooner we AMERICANS with our country on the other side of the world stop interfering the better.

When lindy graham started sabers rattling again zi knew all I needed to.

ProudAmerican 2 points ago +2 / -0

It doesn’t matter if you care about the Middle East, President Trump cares. I’m not suggesting the American economy wouldn’t survive if we completely bail from that area, but even a small hit is the absolute last thing Trump wants to see. The stability which creates a comfortable business climate for large investors is created by long term trends. As it stands, Trump has cut regulations by the hundreds and lowered the corporate tax rate to compete in the global economy. His likely re-election has also been a stabilizer for those who invest. This has created the record setting stock market and boon to American manufacturing. Trump regularly touts the success of his economy because it’s the single biggest metric people use to vote. This fact is why he will make geo political decisions that he thinks best protects what he has started.

This bring us to the Middle East. First, let me say clearly, we aren’t protecting Israel. They can protect themselves and might be forced to do so in the near future. What we’ve done is given them money to prevent as many of the missile attacks upon them as possible. We did this in the past to protect the shipping lanes from war in the region as we were addicted to foreign oil. Now, however, we have become energy independent and don’t need to have the same presence. This is specifically why the situation has changed. Now that we have no true interest in the region, our lack of presence is allowing the region to destabilize. Israel is just one of the countries seeing a change in their short term stability as new oil alliances form. The consequences to Israel are high enough that they are preparing for war. This type of war is the last thing that Trump wants to see because it spooks investors.

At this point you must know there will never be a time when we become disengaged from any part of the world. The global economy is never going to be something we escape. War and instability is the last thing an investor wants to see. If Trump were to be indecisive or apprehensive in how he handles threats it would also add to confusion of what the future holds. This is why he wasted no time in releasing strong messages today for everyone to see. Nothing is open to interpretation this way and investors remain secure in their vision of what the future holds.

Finally, I never said we would lose the economy or even suggested Israel props up our economy. I’m only pointing out what Trump is doing, by remaining in the region, is preventing the type of deep instability that effects the markets, trade and investment. If he can keep the train rolling, he skates to re-election. If the Middle East becomes completely unstable, the global economy will contract. This is why he has made the decision to show moral support, not defense, for Israel. This is also why he made the quick decision and tweets concerning the situation with Iran. It protects what he’s built by showing the world we aren’t going anywhere.

I don’t even want to get into Europe, but I agree 100% they need to pay up and turn to creating their own militaries.

They haven’t had to use them because we were a major presence in the area to protect the oil. Also, Iran is getting closer to having a nuclear weapon and are clear in their intent to use them on Israel. This has changed the timeline of how long Israel can wait to take action. When you look at these reasons, it surely makes sense.

What we protected was the secure flow of ships in the Straits of Hormuz. Any disruption to the free flow of oil, LNG and trade would have been an economic disaster for our country. Now that we aren't reliant upon those shipping lanes to the same degree, there has been a shift for power. This shift is what is causing us to remain in the region.

Please understand, I’m not suggesting Israel is the reason we are playing a role in the Middle East. President Trump is looking at the bigger picture of global economic security threatened by new alliances being created due to our newly found energy independence. Your viewpoints on how Israel has fought back against attacks in the past is not the reason we will always have some hand in the region.

Trump is willing to keep Iran at bay and under economic sanctions in order to prevent Russia from gaining strength by going around sanctions placed upon them. It also tamps down their nuclear ambitions and timetable to becoming armed with such weapons. If they do get such a weapon, Israel would be toast. This is why Israel is preparing for war. They absolutely can’t allow that to happen and using nuclear warheads to clear as much of Iran as quickly as possible would be mandatory to their survival. This type of war would be bad for our guy, especially at election time. His interest isn’t protecting Israel, but rather America’s ability to trade without hindrance.

To bolster this fact, just look at the situation with North Korea. On the day president Trump talked about who’s button was bigger, our markets dropped for days. It was a necessary move on his part, but the news headlines alone did have a negative impact on our economy. Imagine what would happen if war breaks out and the shipping lanes are cut off. It would be a disaster. Despite the “trade war” with China, we are still highly dependent upon attaining products from them and other countries in the region. We are married to the global economy and will never become isolated from the east. We need them and they need us. This is why Trump is willing to step up to the plate instead of pulling back. The alternative would be an Obama era situation where our enemies and cohorts become stronger. Hell, China was dredging the South China Sea for military purposes and Russia was swallowing up land. This isn’t acceptable under Trump and is the reason he has played a strong hand instead of an indifferent one.

If you are in the camp that we must pull out of the Middle East completely and allow the wars to commence, you disagree with Trump. I think Trump has a good grasp on the situation, however, and stand with his decision making thus far. It’s not about Israel, but the damage we would sustain if the area goes to hell in a hand basket.

Agreed, but I think he is deathly afraid of fucking up his economy. The thriving economy is his best metric for re-election and it would be best if he can hold off a strike with minimal, but decisive action.

2
TopKeksWithFrens 2 points ago +2 / -0

Again with the economy explain to all of us how this would fuck up our economy. All day you keep saying this and it makes no sense. Explain why not getting sucked into another conflict will hurt the economy. And be thorough

Barney style for the mong:

  1. Big war in the Middle East
  2. Crude oil prices go up in anticipation of it becoming more difficult to get
  3. Prices of pretty much every other good increases since they require oil to get to market

Stock market makes no distinction between domestic and foreign oil, so even though 89% of consumed oil in the US is domestically produced (with 40% of the foreign oil coming from Canada), prices are still going to theoretically increase.

Wanting to get out of the Middle East is the modern version of Chamberlain appeasing Hitler.
