I'm I understanding this correctly? An Iranian general was killed... in Baghdad, Iraq?

While I largely agree, I do think this guy being in physically on our embassy grounds during a hostile incursion onto US soil (which the embassy is) warranted this response.

I have no interest in war with Iran or extending our stay in Iraq, but the alternative here was to tell every other country in the world that our embassies are low-risk targets.

4
DrCowboyPresident 4 points ago +8 / -4

I'm sure there was intel, but he wasn't killed on embassy grounds. He was killed on airport road. This is certainly going to increase local tension, that's my point.

They were surely involved in the attack, and deserved a retaliation. But we're in hostile territory, conquering it with a billion dollar "embassy" (fortress) that we use to control the surrounding area.

It's easy to see both sides of this. Iran is in it for their own agenda, but the Iraqis will welcome it. That's the situation.

He can make whatever point he wants, but geopolitics is what it is. Some Iraqis appear to be celebrating, so maybe it's not so bad. Hard to tell what is propaganda and what isn't.

But what are our interests there? Oil fields? Proximity to Iran?

5
Yawnz13 5 points ago +8 / -3

Further weakening the Iranians by making them use up their smaller resource pool? I don't know why people bother bringing up oil again and again. The vast majority of what the US consumes is domestically produced, and most of the nations in that part of the world are almost entirely reliant on their oil wells for income. Don't protect them and all the current issues there only get worse.

That's effectively the rationale behind the "climate crisis". Weaken the First World not only by hindering their current energy networks, but inducing economic crises in countries that are almost wholly dependent on oil exports. This then leads to more economic migrants that will be labelled as "refugees".

Yeah, Carlson didn't claim that Israel was protecting Maxwell. Unless you watched something different, he didn't even mention her. Nevermind I'd love to see the evidence instead of the usual "But her daddy!" tripe.

Why is Israel signing a pipeline deal with Greece and Cyprus relevant? I mean I get it, you're a rabbi who enjoys stirring the pot, but come on man at least try to not be so obvious.

Why the fuck would we want to get involved in Iraq again!? We don't need to spend billions to bomb some shithole tents with people worth less than my piss...

Let them battle it out themselves. Iran won't be able to do shit to us anyways. It's one of the worst countries on earth with a terrible military.

Fuck them. Bomb the important shithesds, leave the lowlives alone, cause frankly, they don't deserve to be bombed by Americans.

Thep1mp 11 points ago +13 / -2

A war with Iraq with a President who isn’t a Deep State pawn would end very differently than things did under Obama and Bush. They used the wars to make their masters rich. Trump needs to give his military leaders objectives and let them execute with full power. Take the politics out of it. Remove “journalists “ from the combat theater and let the military do their jobs.

9
Archangel 9 points ago +10 / -1

It doesn't matter, pretty much all of the sand people hate us, including all of the citizens. Yeah, we could keep blowing shit up, but they're still going to hate us. We could try imposing democracy, but it will continue to fail because they worship the pedo-prophet. We need to GTFO and then just isolate them in the sandbox until they at least join the 18th century.

1
MarySmith 1 point ago +1 / -0

I do not recall blowing shit up in this case. I do recall a couple people did lots of somethings to a lot of folks of a handful of nationalities, and now, couple people are apes in hell. Forever.

4
Bimbam 4 points ago +6 / -2

4
Archangel 4 points ago +5 / -1

Because that's exactly what I said. Careful you don't hurt yourself fighting that strawman.

0
Yawnz13 0 points ago +2 / -2

HURR DURR STRAWMAN

Let me break it down for you since you seem to be too busy drooling down your chin:

  1. "The sand people" want us to leave because it gets us off their ass and gives them more leeway to do damage to us.

  2. Therefore, leaving would be appeasing them, just as Chamberlain did by not shitting on Hitler's annexation of Austria (despite Austria asking for British help) and just as Obama did by sending the billions of dollars to Iran.

"Let them battle it out themselves. Iran won't be able to do shit to us anyways. It's one of the worst countries on earth with a terrible military."

4
Banick088 4 points ago +4 / -0

No, do nothing.
This guy organized attacks, he was on camera leading the assault on the embassy.

He was the leader of a proclaimed terrorist group, his death was anti-terrorist actions.

Now sit back and be defensive, that whole "we will use preemptive strike" kinda pissed me off, although I know how important it could be to save lives. No reason to attack Iran with anything other than guided missiles, we have the tech.

Again, I agree and am very worried, but if that's the plan, its a good plan.

7
AllWhiteMeat_tendies 7 points ago +9 / -2

It is not necessary to escalate much, Iran is destabilised and a middle level threat not a geopolitical player. Surgical strikes like this is a smashing counter punch for chumps from Iran mayhems, tagging the embassy, jumping up and down on embassy road signs and stuff.

0
DrCowboyPresident 0 points ago +1 / -1

They have allies in China and Russia. This could get very messy. If they escalate, so will Trump.

Iran is trying to flex it's geopolitical clout in the still destabilized political climate that is Iraq.

6
AllWhiteMeat_tendies 6 points ago +7 / -1

US seems forced to open a can of Popeye spinach and flex a single muscle to change a very enemy military operative from meat to mist. How often has that been done in the course of the engineered conflicts and their aftermaths? In my way of thinking it's a righteous response not seen before in modern fake wars.

Iran is a perpetual pain in the ass. With Iraq there is a Shiite population in the south. Iran is a Shiite Theocracy. The Iranians are a large part of our problems there. Iranians in the South and other foreign nationals accumulated into the north with Al Qaeda and later Daesh(ISIS).

Those groups were allowed to operate freely and even funded by President Zero. Arab Spring rebels got Zero’ training, material, and cash. Iranians got the infamous pallets of cash. Why? Iraq has been a government laundromat. Lots of people have been feeding at that trough. Otherwise the war would have been over.

The difference between Trump and Zero or Bushler is that Trump isn’t feeding the enemies, he’s starving them. That’s also why Trump can kill people prior governments wouldn’t. Trump can ford to win a war because he doesn’t want to have a gravy train.

Our political class is cynically evil. The exist you pump the treasury out to friends and family. That’s why they hate Trump so much. He’s the first President since Eisenhower who isn’t riding the gravy train.

1
MarySmith 1 point ago +1 / -0

Excellent observations.

3
Roof_Korean 3 points ago +4 / -1

Iraq if half shia and half sunni.

The north east of Iraq is very much swayed by Iran.

4
Banick088 4 points ago +5 / -1

Have you been talking to Iranians or looking at videos? I think people are going to be less mad than you think, the government will try to act like it ....

But this is the same government that just murdered hundreds of people in the streets because they are starving and have no fuel.

Meanwhile, Iran is blowing money on proxy wars in 5 countries.

On one hand, I don't want to see this escalate further, which I'm afraid it will. While I don't fear our chances in Iran (we could turn all of the Middle East into glass should we feel so inclined), I feel it would be another long, drawn out war. On the other hand, it proves that Iran shouldn't mess with us. They just lost their leading general and militia leaders in Iraq (including one of Obama's friends) because they decided to mess with our embassy. It does feel nice to know that we are firm enough to set a line in the sand and keep it.

22
VoteTrump 22 points ago +24 / -2

They decided to mess with Trump. Donald J. Trump: "....Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities. They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat. Happy New Year!"

16
ConservativeCrusader 16 points ago +18 / -2

Very true. Trump's thing is always punch back harder than they do. He's a very good ally to have in war against Islamic terrorists and demonic globalists.

If iran strikes against US forces, we can destroy all their oil infrastructure and nuclear production infrastructure with no need to involve UN.

When they attack, expect bunker busters to destroy all that nuclear materials they have.

At the worst, Iran will drop a nuke or dirty bomb on Israel, which would lead to their being no more Iran, just a sea of nuclear glass when israel retaliates.

5

Kataeb Hezbollah, or Brigades of the Party of God, is an Iran-sponsored Shiite paramilitary group in Iraq, actively engaged in anti-Western pro-Iran activities since the 1980s. Kataeb Hezbollah is a part of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), an umbrella organization of several Iraqi Shiite militias.

Kataeb Hezbollah now controls several PMF brigades with about 10,000 fighters.Jamal Jaafar Ibrahimi, more commonly known by his nom de guerre Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, is at the top of its pyramid. Kataeb Hezbollah is seen by many Iraq observers as the central nervous system of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Force (IRGC-QF) in Iraq.

Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis is an adviser to IRGC-QF commander Qassem Soleimani. It accuses the IRGC-QF of providing Kataeb Hezbollah with "lethal support" to target U.S.-led coalition and Iraqi security forces.

The Iranians want the Democrats back in power in the US. They miss their pallets of cash, the Iranian nuclear deal and all that jazz. They are trying everything they can to pull Trump into another pointless conflict in the middle east. They think that by doing this Trump will lose support of his base as he ran an anti war campaign. Everything Iran has done over the last 2 years or so has been designed to pull Trump into a conflict to try to get him to lose re-election. That being said I won't say democrats have anything to do with it, I wont say this is exactly what Pelosi wants (read through this comment section, we are a united front yet this is dividing us) but I will say if I found out they were pushing Iran to these measures you really couldn't imagine my shock

The US forces had a very clear idea where Qassem was. I think there was reliable leak free ground intelligence pinpointing his location. It's possible they'd managed to keep an eye on him from the air, but I think that's unlikely since he'd probably been inside at least once since he was at the embassy, and he didn't last as long as he did by being careless.

The whole embassy attack stinks of an ordered, planned event. Perhaps they were expecting a more aggressive response from the US, but what the US has done seems measured and effective. The implication is that individuals in charge of attacks can be identified and neutralized.

They can rouse the locals to attack, but if the leaders can be determined and killed, finding new leaders for attacks will be more difficult.

It's likely that the situation at the embassy had been closely monitored, and responses to various scenarios had been planned. At least now the people in Iraq and Iran know how attacks will be responded to, if it wasn't patently obvious what would happen before.
