I remember being chided by an unobservant Jewish nut because I dared put wrapped meat from the grocery store next to his wrapped, non-kosher chicken. I knew he was just being a jerk, and told him that it was wrapped, and therefore unlikely to contaminate his whateverthehell.
Some people deliberately misuse the kosher rules for the purpose of being rude to others. This has a lot to do with why so many otherwise observant Jews in the US refuse to keep kosher (the other main reason is, they like bacon). If vegans choose the same noxious attitude, they deserve the approbation they get.
