...and how happy they will be if they do attack. That tells you everything you need to know about them. It tells you there is no compromising with them, no talking with them, no giving them the benefit of the doubt, no trusting them with any amount of power or responsibility. They are actually rooting for Iran to kill as many Americans as possible just because they think this will embarrass the president. It's pure evil. Never forget that.

I would be frankly shocked if Iran did attack us. I see lots of butthurt shrieking and macho blustering from Iran, but very little action. Trump didn't just kill one of their top guys, he humiliated them and they can't deal. The concept of honor is huge in the Islamic world, not attacking us makes them look like pussies. Trump knows and exploits this.
You are dead on. Trump knows that Iran needs the verbal sparring, so he indulges them. They need to show they are strong after having an attack fail and having Soleimani killed. So Trump gives them an opportunity to make a whole bunch of threats and a bunch of symbolic moves to get their fill.
At the same time if they actually try something he has made it clear he will wreck them and make them look very weak.
He understands how to deal with countries that subscribe to power politics. The Democrats are weak against Iran because they only understand appeasement.
Trump is big on tit for tat. Whatever you do to him, he'll do back to you slightly better. You insult him, he insults you. You attack us, he attack back. You make nice, he'll make nice.
