The problem is the gradual lefting of Texas. Texas has 38 electoral college votes. It is reddish now, purpling slowly, and may go blue in time. This could undo a lot of things.

Texas has money and room. Of course people go there.

"The six states with the most electors are California (55), Texas (38), New York (29), Florida (29), Illinois (20), and Pennsylvania (20)."

Texas is the main prize and the big prize and it is under pressure. Uh oh.

What should Texas do?

They are not the only problem. People come in from other states and don't magically change their mentality when their back wheels are over the state line.

There has been mention of "Welcome Wagons" that might try to communicate that they shouldn't vote in the same policies that made them have to leave their home states in the first place. Simple logic really. But people have habits. And they don't have time to sit and ponder, they are busy. So they just think what they always thought. Reflexively. Uncritically.

"Welcome Wagons" are the brainchild of Glenn Reynolds, who publishes a well known political blog called Instapundit. I don't know if anything was ever done with this concept.
