With the proper preparations and food brought with them, I don't see why a vegan couldn't climb Everest. I love my tasty animals, don't get me wrong, but I see no reason why a carb-heavy diet would not work for any physical activity. Carbs can be just as energy dense as fats.
No, you are thinking of kcals versus kcals. It is not just a BTU battle up there.
Nutritionally, fat is king for climbing at altitude. There is more to it than raw fuel to think of, especially when digestion and deletion need to be factored.
It is why astronauts were not fed pasta, beans and rice before a launch.
Actually you have to eat the bones of the rabbit to stay healthy. Otherwise you get what is called 'rabbit wasting' disease, since they are so lean (tissue wise).
I think people are interested because it's yet another woman going off to do something to prove a point and ending up dead. Like those "single female travelers" out there.
Actually, I retract that. I just realized from my own personal experiences with ketosis while I had a couple significant unhealed wounds that there is one enormous difference in the body between a carb diet, and a protein/animal fat diet. Your body responds to infection and injury with much more swelling and fluid buildup when you are eating carbs.
She died due to swelling on her brain, her husband nearly died due to swelling in his lungs. If they had both been in ketosis, the swelling might not have gotten bad enough to kill them. The swelling might have even been insignificant enough to allow them to complete the climb.

Yes because carbs by their nature are inflammatory.
People who spout off about the magical anti-inflammatory properties of this or that breakthrough dietary supplement, while eating a typical carb-loaded American diet based on the demonic food pyramid, crack me up

High fat, high protein, low residue foods.
Upvoted but
1 Calorie (capital C) = 1,000 calories (1 kcal)
What did you mean
Kilo calorie versus calorie. Dietitian calorie versus physics calorie. Nice catch! Thanks!
Nah, it's easier to get iron from meats, sure, but we can get it from rabbit food too. Spinach, etc.

Ask any Spec Ops vet.
But in order to get iron from spinach, I'd have to eat spinach.
So right away there's an impassable roadblock.
Pretty sure the iron you get in spinach isn't the same as what meat has in it.
