It sounded pre-emptive. Has he been tipped off that there's an investigation going on? (And I don't mean the NYT investigating, as he claims.) He can make up a story, but he can't hide his cyber-tracks. They'll know how long the porn has been "suddenly found" on his computer, and how it got there.
