This is not true, Iran was a free and open democracy, they had a prime minister, women walked around in go-go skirts, men prefered to shave, they wore suits. Britain overthrew their democracy and put in a dictator because their democracy wasn't doing what Britain wanted with their oil. In the chaos, Islamic revolutionaries overthrew that dictator and they've been in power ever since. A large minority of people, in power, want Iran to remain like this. The vast majority of simple people working 9-5 want Iran to be an 1st world western country.
