I'm not saying that we should start any fight. I'm just saying that we could LITERALLY be making our last stand in a mass grave full of the family members they already murdered, and they will revise history as it happens to suit their narrative. It's what they do.
Certainly true, but we are able to slightly overpass the fake news. Any sign that we were the aggressors and even those avenues close off. It's better to wait for the moment we are attacked to strike back and try to spread the word despite resistance from the Left over striking first and not being able to defend our position as easily. Any control on optics we can get will be vital should/when the time for arms arrives since it'll help our cause gain support in the short/long term. In the meantime, we need to strengthen our means of getting the word out as much as humanly possible.

I agree that the laws that ban guns should lead to arresting the people who pass it. The moment these laws are passed, we should be ready for action, as they'll start coming after us. That is when shots are fired. A gun ban means that the government is coming for everyone's weapons and will take them without any consideration for innocents. Rather than start a conflict before those laws are passed, I suggest waiting until after. Beforehand, we need to focus on more organization. When the time comes, we need to be prepared. As you said, this may get very ugly.

Not turning the other cheek, it's a matter of determining when to switch tactics. Optics can help turn the tide of war in terms of support just as much as victories and losses. Our current tactics should be getting as many people to understand the dangers of the deep state and establishing means of communicating our message, along with preparing for any physical conflict. If we can push back through nonviolent means first, it will do us well should the deep state do something more physical.
